THECHILD-ANGEL

They clamour and fight, they doubtand despair, they know no end to their wranglings.

Let your life come amongst themlike a flame of light, my child, unflickering and pure, and delight them intosilence.

They are cruel in their greed andtheir envy, their words are like hidden knives thirsting for blood.

Go and stand amidst their scowlinghearts, my child, and let your gentle eyes fall upon them like the forgivingpeace of the evening over the strife of the day.

Let them see your face, my child,and thus know the meaning of all things; let them love you and thus love eachother.

Come and take your seat in thebosom of the limitless, my child. At sunrise open and raise your heart like ablossoming flower, and at sunset bend your head and in silence complete theworship of the day.

他们喧闹争斗，他们怀疑失望，他们知道，辩论是无果得。

我的孩子，让你的生命到他们当中去，如一线镇定而纯洁的光焰，让他们因愉悦而沉默。

他们在贪妄和妒忌时，是残忍的；他们的话，好像暗藏的刀一样，渴望饮血。
