我祝你好运。（听记1）

表示祝福好运，口语中常见的表达：

keep one’s fingers crossed for ...

The exam is coming. I will keep my fingers crossed for you.     

Godspeed  一路顺风，一路平安

I wish you Godspeed.

We use Godspeed to wish someone good luck, especially before a journey.

luck（v.）out 走运

I really lucked out when I got the last ticket for the concert.

Thank God, I really lucked out when I got the last train ticket during the spring festival.

break a leg !  祝你好运，演出成功！

Why does this expression sound like a curse ?（为什么听上去像是诅咒？）

在剧场，演出成功，就需要演员返场谢幕。

If the performance is successful, the actors will come out for the curtain call.

越成功，谢幕的次数也就越多。大概是指累到腿再也直不起来为止。

You typically say "break a leg" to actors and musicians before they go on stage to perform.

2. Captain 

captain 

可以指船长、机长、队长、美国陆海空军上尉

cap=head 核心意思：领头的

capital n. 首都（cap头→首都）

泰坦尼克号的船长：the captain of Titanic

Michael是这架飞机的机长。（听记2）

The captain of a plane is the pilot in charge of the aircraft.

机长是负责整架飞机的飞行员。

Kobe Bryant是洛杉矶湖人队的队长。

Kobe Bryant was the captain of the Los Angeles Lakers.

Kobe Bryant被认为是继乔丹之后NBA中最有天赋的球员之一。

Kobe Bryant was considered to be one of the most talented NBA players after Michael Jordan.

他是海军上尉。 

He is the captain of the navy.

captains of industry业内巨头

The president is going to meet captains of industry.

Captains of industry are business people who are especially successful and powerful.

他是我们的班长。

He is the captain of our class.  

注意和monitor区别。

每个人都希望能领头，但是太多领头就会造成灾难。

Everyone wants to be the captain, but too many captains in a team will be a disaster.

大家在合作的时候，如果力不往一处使，那么最终什么事也做不成。

谚语：Two captains will sink the ship. 

两个船长会把船给弄沉。

领头的太多，反而把事给搞砸。

3. Sail 

1）v.航行

让我们去航海。

Let us go sailing.

我们从上海起航去悉尼港。（听记3）

环球航行：sail around the world

环球航行是我一直的梦想。

Sailing around the world is my long-held dream.   

A lot of people dream of sailing around the world.

2）sailboat n.帆船   

sail v.驾驶帆船

We will sail the ship around the world.     

3）启航：set sail for...   

We will set sail for home.

We will set sail for New York.

4）水手：sailor

Smooth seas do not make skillful sailors.  

平静的海水锻炼不出好的水手。

A bad/good sailor晕船的/不晕船的人

A bad sailor always feels seasick on a boat.

A good sailor is someone who does not feel seasick on a boat or ship.

4. Harbour (harbor)

1）港口

When talking about harbors, you may think of some famous names, such as

New York Harbor （纽约港）

Pearl Harbor in Hawaii（夏威夷珍珠港）

Sydney Harbour in Australia

（澳大利亚悉尼港）

Victoria Harbour in Hong Kong. 

（香港的维多利亚港）

These harbors are natural harbors. （天然港）

By contrast, there are also “artificial harbors”,（人工港）such as the port of Rotterdam in Netherlands, the port of Tianjin in China.

artificial表示人工的，AI=artificial intelligence人工智能

2) 引申为避难所

Home is my harbor in the storm.

The country has become a safe harbor for criminals.（听记4）

3）动词，表示庇护，藏匿

该国藏匿了很多罪犯。

The country harbors many criminals.  

肮脏的厨房藏了很多细菌。

The dirty kitchen harbored many bacteria.

5. Proud  adj.骄傲的

1） 自负、骄傲（贬义）

This guy is as proud as a peacock.（听记5）

2） 骄傲（褒义）

Ronald Reagan said “I am very proud to be called a pig. It stands for pride, integrity and guts.”

be proud of 为...感到骄傲（口语）

I am proud of you.

I am proud of my country.

他为自己是一个中国人感到骄傲。 

He is proud of being a Chinese.

He takes pride in being a Chinese.

take pride in  为...感到骄傲

3）名词：pride  n.自豪；骄傲

自豪感：sense of pride

We feel a sense of pride in our country.        

pride也有贬义的骄傲

pride and prejudice 傲慢与偏见

骄兵必败 Pride comes before a fall.

6. Important  adj.重要的

VIP = very important person

口语中表达重要的表达方式;

1）It is important.

学会一门外语很重要。（听记6）

2）matter v.要紧，重要

你多大不重要，重要的是你知道多少。

It doesn’t matter how old you are. What really matters is how much you know.

It doesn’t matter how many words you know.

What really matters is how many words you can use.

3）count v.有意义，重要

To make each day count.

让每一天过得有意义。

It is quality, not quantity, that counts. 

真正重要的是质量不是数量。

4）vital adj.极其重要的

保护森林极其重要。

It is vital to protect the forest.

It is of vital importance to protect the forest.
