Snake蛇
Lying comfortably upon a sofa，Harker Brayton smiled as he read old Morrissey book:Marvels of science，He unconsciously lowered the book without changing The direction of his eyes，As soon as the book had gone below the line of sight，Something in a dark place of the room attracted his attention，In the shadow under the bed he noticed two points of light about an inch apart，They might have been caused by the lamp above him shining on bits of metal，So he did not think about them and continued his reading.
A moment later，Something caused him to low the book again and look for what he had seen before，The points of light were still there，They seemed to have become brighter，Shining with greenish glow that he had not at first observed，He thought ，too， that they might have moved a little，or were a bit nearer，They were still too much in the shadow，However， to reveal their nature，And again he turned to his reading.
Suddenly something that he read gave him a thought that made him drop the book to the floor，Brayton ,half rising from the sofa，Was staring into the darkness beneath his bed，His attention was now directed fully to those shining points glowing in the shadow，There ，almost directly under the foot rail of the bed，He saw the body of a large snake，The points of light were its eyes，Its ugly head was turned in his direction，The eyes were no longer merely meaningless points of light，They looked into his eyes with evil strength and hate.

在沙发上懒散舒适的躺着，哈克.布瑞顿微笑着读着老莫瑞斯的科学传奇，他无意识的让书低了一点儿，而眼神还停留在原来的位置上，当书刚刚低于视线时，床下黑暗处的什么东西引起了他的注意，在床下阴影处，他注意到有两个相距一英尺的亮点，他们可能是由于他上面的台灯照在某些金属上而形成的，所以他没有多想就继续读他的书了。
一会儿，不知为什么使他再一次放低了书，去找他刚才看到的东西，那两个亮点仍然在那里，他们好像比以前更亮了些，而且闪烁着绿光，而他先前没有注意到这一点，他感觉到亮点好像移动了一点，或者更近了一些，然而他们在阴影，无法辨认出他们是什么，再一次他又去读他的书了。
突然，他读到的故事给了他一个念头，这使得他的书掉在了地板上。布瑞顿从沙发上欠起身来，瞪着床下的阴暗处，他的注意力全部都集中到那阴暗处的两个闪亮的光点上，在那儿恰恰在床角栏下方，他看到一条大蛇的身躯，那两个亮点是他的眼睛，他那丑恶的头正转向了他。那两个眼睛，不再是毫无意义的光点，它们用邪恶，仇视目光紧紧盯着他。
