The job（工作）
“Everything happens for the best ，”my mother said whenever I faced disappointment，“If you carry on ，something good will happen someday.”
Mother was right，As I discovered after graduating from college. I had designed myself for a sports announcer，So I went to Chicago to knock on the door of every station and was refused every time，In one station，A kind lady told me that large stations would'n employ a person without experience since I had just graduated，"Go out in the town and find a small station that might give you a chance， ”she said.
I returned to Dixon，Where I had finished my high school education and had joined in the school football team，My father said that our town had built a store and wanted a man to manage its sports department，The job sounded just right for me but I wasn't hired.
My disappointment had shown as if by design，"Everything happens For the best，" Mom reminded me，Dad lent me his car to look for a job，I tried woc radio，The program director told me they had already hired an announcer，After I left his office，I asked aloud，"How can a fellow get to be a sports announcer if he can't get a job in radio station?" Suddenly ,I heard the director calling:"Do you know anything about football?" Then he asked me to broadcast an imaginary game，It was easy，And I did it without difficulty，The director was satisfied and told me I would be broadcasting a game on the coming Saturday.

“一切事情都会有好的结果的，”每当我面对沮丧的事的时候，妈妈总是对我讲，“如果你能坚持下去，总有一天好的结果会到来的。”
正如我大学毕业以后发现的那样，妈妈是对的。我计划我自己应该成为体育节目的播音员，所以我去了芝加哥，敲遍了所有电台的门，但是每一次都是被拒绝了，在一个电台，一个和蔼的中年妇女对我讲，大的电台不可能雇用像我这样刚刚毕业无经验的人。“到城外去找个小电台可能会给你个机会，”她说道。
我回到迪克森，在那里我完成了高中学业，并参加了学校的足球队。爸爸告诉我，我们镇上有个商店需要一个人来管理体育部门，这个工作好像是为了我似的，但是我还没有被雇用。
不走运的事，就像设计好了似的，“一切事情都会有好的结果的。”妈妈提醒我。爸爸把他的车借给我，让我去找工作，我去了woc电台。节目总监告诉我，他们早就有了一个播音员，当我离开他的办公室时，我大声问：“一个人如果得不到在电台的工作，他如何能成为体育播音员？”突然，我听到总监叫我：“你对足球了解吗？”后来他让我播送一个想象中的球赛，那太容易了，干这个我没问题，总监对我很满意，告诉我下个星期六的比赛由我来解说。
