Guangdong exports soar in wake of BRI

上半年广东出口首次突破2.5万亿元

Despite sluggish external market demand, Guangdong's exports hit a record high of more than 2.55 trillion yuan in the first half of the year, up year-on-year by 3.6 percent, Guangdong Customs revealed on Wednesday.

广东海关周三（7月19日）透露，尽管外部市场需求低迷，但今年上半年，广东省的出口达到了创纪录的2.55万亿元，同比增长3.6%。

It is the first time the province, the country's biggest foreign trader, reached more than 2.5 trillion yuan in export volume in six months, a statement from Guangdong Customs said.

广东海关的一份声明称，这是广东省首次半年内出口额超过2.5万亿元。广东外贸进出口总额居全国首位。

The good export performance has helped Guangdong, a major production base for the world, reach a foreign trade volume of 3.86 trillion yuan from January to June, a year-on-year reduction of 1.3 percent. The province recorded an import volume of 1.31 trillion yuan, down year-on-year by 9.6 percent.

作为世界主要生产基地的广东，出口表现良好，1—6月广东省外贸进出口3.86万亿元人民币，同比下降1.3%。全省进口1.31万亿元，同比下降9.6%。

Guangdong's continuous growth of exports was achieved thanks to the rapid increase in exports to countries related to China's Belt and Road Initiative since the beginning of the year.

广东出口的持续增长得益于年初以来对“一带一路” 沿线国家出口的快速增长。

According to Customs, Guangdong's exports to BRI-related countries saw a year-on-year growth of 7.4 percent in the six months ending in June, 8.7 percentage points higher than the province's overall growth rate.

海关数据显示，截至今年6月，广东对“一带一路” 沿线国家的出口同比增长7.4%，高出整体增速8.7个百分点。

Guangdong's exports to Russia, Latin American countries, Mideast countries and Central Asia countries witnessed a year-on-year increase of 64 percent, 11.9 percent, 9.2 percent and 48.4 percent, respectively, between January and June, the statement said.

声明称，1月至6月，广东对俄罗斯、拉美地区、中东地区和中亚地区国家的出口分别同比增长64%、11.9%、9.2%和48.4%。

Meanwhile, Guangdong's foreign trade volume with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations came to 639.16 billion from January to June, up 3.6 percent year-on-year, representing 16.6 percent of the province's total foreign trade volume, according to Customs.

与此同时，海关数据显示，今年1月至6月，广东与东南亚国家联盟的对外贸易额为6391.6亿元，同比增长3.6%，占广东省对外贸易总额的16.6%。

The province's import and export volume with the European Union and United States, however, saw a reduction of 0.6 percent and 7.6 percent, respectively, to hit 469.38 billion yuan and 461.18 billion, accounting for 12.2 and 12 percent of the province's total foreign trade volume in the period.

广东省对欧盟和美国的进出口分别同比下降0.6%和7.6%，分别达到4693.8亿元和4611.8亿元，占同期全省对外贸易总额的12.2%和12%。

Guangdong's exports of electric passenger vehicles, lithium batteries and solar cells increased sevenfold — 27.7 percent and 57 percent, respectively, from January to June, it said.

1月至6月，广东省电动载人汽车、锂电池、太阳能电池等“新三样”出口分别增长7倍、27.7%、57%。

Exports of agricultural products also saw growth, of 23 percent in the previous six months. Of that, exports of dried and fresh fruits and vegetables increased by 56.1 percent and 8.3 percent, year-on-year.

1月至6月，广东省农产品出口同比增长23%。其中，干鲜瓜果、蔬菜出口分别增长56.1%、8.3%。

Guangdong's imports of bulk commodities, including crude oil, natural gas, metal ore sands and coals, continues to witness big growth because of strong domestic demand this year.

由于今年国内需求强劲，广东的原油、天然气、金属矿砂和煤炭等大宗商品进口继续大幅增长。

Meanwhile, Guangdong's jewelry imports increased more than tenfold in the first half of the year, while its imports of meat, aquatic products and dairy products increased by 25.4 percent, 23.1 percent and 10.1 percent, respectively, according to Customs.

海关数据显示，与此同时，广东的首饰进口在今年上半年增长了十倍以上，肉类、水产品、乳品进口分别增长25.4%、23.1%、10.1%。

Shenzhou-16 crew completes first spacewalk

神舟十六号航天员乘组首次出舱

The Shenzhou-16 crew members on board China's orbiting space station completed their first spacewalk at 9:40 p.m. on Thursday, according to the China Manned Space Agency.

据中国载人航天工程办公室消息，20日21时40分，神舟十六号航天员乘组首次出舱，圆满完成全部既定任务。

Jing Haipeng, Zhu Yangzhu and Gui Haichao collaborated to pull off all set tasks with the assistance of the space station's robotic arm. Jing and Zhu have since returned to the Wentian lab module safely.

神舟十六号航天员景海鹏、朱杨柱、桂海潮密切协同，在空间站机械臂支持下，圆满完成全部既定任务。随后，航天员景海鹏、朱杨柱安全返回空间站问天实验舱。

During the extravehicular activities lasting about eight hours, they completed several tasks, including the installation and lifting of the support frame for a panoramic camera outside the Tianhe core module, and the unlocking and lifting of two panoramic cameras outside the Mengtian lab module.

This was the first time for Jing, who is on his fourth spaceflight, to perform a spacewalk. Zhu has become China's first flight engineer to take part in extravehicular activities.

The Shenzhou-16 crew, as planned, will carry out space science experiments and complete multiple extravehicular installation tasks in the future.
