Off the record , I believe that it would be better if I could divide the class into some groups according to their comprehensive abilities . I will set the learning objectives of each of my lessons at three different levels - the basic learning objective for all the students , the average one for most of them and the challenging one for some of them , so all of my students can achieve their goals and go further if that ' s possible .
When I have to do that , I ' ll give different tasks or even different learning materials to my students accordingly . However , I don ' t have to tell them that those tasks or materials are different but just provide them with some options , lest some sensitive students should be upset .
Though it ' s a fact that the gap is there , it doesn ' t mean a teacher can do nothing about it . I ' m convinced that the gap should be narrowed or bridged . Therefore , I ' ll encourage students of lower ability to catch up with others . If some catch - up lessons are necessary , I will ask the school and parents for permission and offer such lessons to my students to help them . Meanwhile , I ' ll balance students ' abilities when doing group activities and encourage them to communicate more , so they can learn from each other and have a feeling that they are still in the same class .
