So, how do you go about creating one of the world`s most annoying sounds?

a minor annoyance that a person identifies as particularly annoying to them, to a greater degree than it may be to others 令人讨厌的的事情（尤指微小的事）

Smoking is my pet hate.

Irritate

(v.) If something irritates you, it keeps annoying you. 激怒

You're irritating enough, especially when you talk like that.

distracting

(adj.) If you say that something is distracting, you mean that it makes it difficult for you to concentrate properly on what you are doing. 使人分心的

I find it slightly distracting to have someone watching me while I work.

That helps to reduce stress and sharpen concentration.

block out  

to hide or cover something so that it cannot be seen, felt, or heard 屏蔽；遮挡

Google said it would introduce more new features such as the ability to block out background noise.

kick the habit  

to give up something harmful that you have done for a long time 戒掉坏习惯= break the habit

Mike, he, he kicked the habit early on. But Dierdre couldn't or didn't want to. I don't know.

sympathy
