Whenschool started in September. Anne and Diana walked there and back togetherevery day.

'Whata beautiful day,' Anne said happily one morning, as the two little girls walkedacross the fields.

'I'mvery lucky to have you as my best friend, Diana. You are my best friend, aren'tyou?'

"Ofcourse, Anne,' replied Diana, taking Anne's hand.

'Andjust think, today you'll meet Gilbert Blythe. He's three years older than us,and very good-looking. He's just come back from holiday, and starts schooltoday. '

'Oh,boys!' said Anne. 'I'm not interested in them.' But she did look at Gilbertwhen they arrived at school. He was a tall boy, with curly brown hair and afriendly smile.

'Heis good-looking, 'Anne whispered to Diana, 'but why does he smile at me? Hedoesn't know me!"

九月份开学以后，安妮和黛安娜每天一起上下学。

“多么美好的一天啊！”一天早上，当两个小姑娘穿过田野的时候，安妮开心的说道“能有你这个最好的朋友，我真是太幸运了，黛安娜，你是我最好的朋友，对么？”

“当然，安妮”黛安娜拉着安妮的手回道“知道么，你今天就要见到吉尔伯特.布莱斯了，他比我们大三岁，长得很帅，刚刚度假回来，今天开始上课”

“欧男生”安妮说道“我对这些可不感兴趣”

但是当她们到学校的时候，她确实忍不住看了吉尔伯特。他是个高大的男孩，有着棕色的卷发和友好的笑容。

“他是很好看”安妮小声对戴安娜说：“但是他为什么要对我笑，他又不认识我”

Avonleaschool was quiet that day. The teacher, Mr Phillips, was helping some of theolder children at the back of the schoolroom. Anne was looking out of thewindow at the reds and yellows of the trees, and the silvery blue of the river.

Shewas far away in the world of her imagination. But Gilbert wanted her to look athim. He whispered to her, but she did not move. He was surprised. Girls wereusually very ready to look at him.

Suddenlyhe put his arm out, pulled her red plaits, and said in a loud whisper,'Carrots! Carrots!' Anne jumped up and looked angrily at Gilbert.

'Youhorrible boy!' she cried. "I hate you!' And then she brought her heavybook down on Gilbert's head.

那天埃文利学校很安静，飞利浦老师在教室后面辅导几个高年级的学生，安妮看着窗外红黄相间的树，和湛蓝色波光粼粼的河面，她正沉浸在自己的幻想中，但是吉尔伯特却想让她看着自己。他小声叫安妮，但是安妮没有回应，他很吃惊，因为女孩们总是会很乐意看着他。

突然，他伸出手，拉扯了安妮的红色辫子，并且在她耳边大叫：“胡萝卜！胡萝卜！”

安妮跳了起来，生气的盯着吉尔伯特

“你这个坏小子！”她叫道“我讨厌你！”

接着她把她厚重的课本儿摔在了吉尔伯特的头上。

MrPhillips heard the noise, and came slowly to the front of the schoolroom.

'AnneShirley, why did you do that?" he asked.

Shestayed silent.

 Gilbert said, 'I'm sorry, Mr Phillips. I wasrude to her. That's why she hit me. '

Butthe teacher did not listen to Gilbert.

'Icannot have bad children in my school, ' said Mr Phillips firmly.

'Anne,go and stand in front of the class. '

Andthere Anne stood for the rest of the day, a lonely little girl with a smallwhite angry face.

'Ihate Mr Phillips!' she thought. 'And I'll never look at or speak to GilbertBlythe again !?

飞利浦老师听到了响动，慢慢走到教室前面。

“安妮雪莉，你为什么要那么做？”他问

安妮没说话，吉尔伯特开口道：“我很抱歉飞利浦老师，是我冒犯了她，所以她才会打我。”

但老师并没有听进吉尔伯特的解释

“我不能容忍有坏学生在我的学校”飞利浦老师语气强硬：“安妮，站到教室前面去！”

那天安妮站了一整天，孤独的小姑娘苍白的小脸上，满是愤怒。

“我讨厌飞利浦老师！”她想“我绝不会再看吉尔伯特一眼，也不会再跟他说话！”

Thenext day some of the schood children were playing in a farmer's field in theirlunch hour, so they were a little late for afternoon school.

Anneran into the classroom at the same time as the boys, just after the teacher.

'You'relate, Anne, ' said Mr Phillips. 'You won't sit with Diana today. I see that youenjoy being with the boys very much, so go and sit next to Gilbert thisafternoon.'

Anne'sface went white. 'He can't mean it!' she thought.

"Didyou hear me, Anne?”  asked Mr Phillips.

'Yessir, ' said Anne and moved slowly to Gilbert's desk.

Thereshe sat down and put her head on the desk, with her arms over it.

'Thisis the end, ' she was thinking. 'I wasn't the only person who was late. Andhe's sent me to sit with a boy! And that boy is Gilbert Blythe!'

第二天午休的时候，学校里的一些孩子们跑到农田里玩儿，以至于他们下午上课迟到了。安妮和那些男生们一样，落后飞利浦老师一步跑进的教室。

“你迟到了安妮”飞利浦老师说道：“今天你不要和黛安娜坐一起了，我发现你很喜欢和男生厮混在一起，下午你就去坐在吉尔伯特旁边吧”

安妮的脸色一白“飞利浦老师不能这么做”她想着

“你没听到我说话么安妮”飞利浦老师问。

“听到了”安妮说着，缓慢地挪到了吉尔伯特的桌子边。

她坐下后，趴在了桌子上，还用胳膊捂住了脑袋。

“就这样”她心道：“迟到的人又不只有我一个。他却罚我和男生坐一起！而且还是吉尔伯特布莱斯！”

Therest of the day went very slowly for Anne. When it was time to leave, she wentto her desk, next to Diana's, and took all her books, pens and pencils withher.

'Whatare you doing, Anne?' asked Diana.

'I'mnot coming back to school, ' replied Anne firmly.

'Oh!But Anne. .. we're reading a new book next week. and we're playing a new gameon Monday, and... It'll be very exciting! And you'll miss it, Anne!'

ButAnne was not interested. 'I' m sorry, Diana,' was her only answer.

Thatevening Marilla ran round to Rachel Lynde's house.

'Rachel,please help me! Anne says she won't go back to school. What am I going to sayto her?'

MrsLynde already knew about Anne's troubles at school, and she was always verypleased when people asked her to help. She smiled and sat back comfortably.

'I'vehad ten children myself, so I know all about them,' she said. 'Anne can stay athome for a while. She'll want to go back to school again soon, I'm sure.'

此后，对于安妮来说，那天简直度日如年！

放学的时候，她走到黛安娜旁边，她的座位前，拿走了她所有的书，钢笔和铅笔

“安妮你在干什么？”黛安娜问

“我不会再回学校了！”安妮笃定的回答

“欧，但是安妮，我们下周就要开始学一本儿新书了，周一我们还要玩儿一个新游戏，会很精彩有趣，这样，你会错过的安妮！”

然而安妮并不感兴趣：“抱歉，黛安娜”这就是她唯一的回答

那天晚上，马丽拉跑去了瑞秋林德的家

“瑞秋，请你帮帮我，安妮说她不会再回学校去了，我要怎么跟她说”

林德夫人已经知道了安妮在学校惹的麻烦，她一直都很乐意有人找她帮忙，她从容的笑着坐了回去

“我生了十个孩子，我了解他们”她说道“安妮可以在家待几天，我保证她很快就会想再回到学校去的”

SoAnne stayed at home, and only saw Diana in the evenings. She was a child whofelt very strongly. She hated Gilbert Blythe, but she really loved Diana.

Oneevening Marilla found Anne crying in the kitchen. “what's the matter,child?" she asked in surprise

'Ilove Diana very much, ' sobbed Anne. "I can't live without her, Marilla!But what will happen when she marries? I hate her husband already! I canimagine her in the church in her long white dress... and then she'll go away!And I'll never see her again!'

Marillaturned away to hide her smiling face. What a strange, funny child Anne was!Marilla tried not to laugh, but she couldn't stop herself.

'Youand your imagination, Anne Shirley!' she cried, and she laughed and laughed.

MrsLynde was right, of course. After a few days Anne decided to go back to school.All the children were pleased to see her again, but she did not speak toGilbert Blythe.

安妮就这样待在了家里，她只在晚上见见黛安娜。她是个敏感并且感情丰富的孩子，她讨厌吉尔伯特布莱斯，但是她真的很喜欢黛安娜。

一天晚上，马丽拉发现安妮在厨房里哭

“你怎么了孩子”她惊讶的问

“我非常非常爱黛安娜”她抽泣着

“我不能没有她，马丽拉。但是等她结婚了我该怎么办？我已经开始讨厌她的丈夫了。我能想象到她穿着洁白的长裙子，在教堂里的画面，然后她就会离我而去，我就再也见不到她了！”

马丽拉转过头来掩饰她脸上的笑意，安妮真是个奇特又有意思的孩子。

马丽拉努力忍住笑，但她控制不住自己

“安妮雪莉，你，你的想象力真是！”马丽拉大声说着，然后又放声大笑了起来！

当然，林德夫人是对的，几天后安妮决定回到学校去，所有人都很高兴能再次见到她，但是她仍然不跟吉尔伯特说话。
