1.FAST TELESCOPE DISCOVERS BIGGEST ATOMIC CLOUD IN UNIVERSE

“中国天眼”发现宇宙最大原子气体结构

Chinese scientists say the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical Radio Telescope, also known as FAST, discovered the largest atomic cloud in the universe by far, which is 20 times larger than our Milky Way galaxy.

中国科学家表示，五百米口径球面射电望远镜“中国天眼”（FAST）发现了迄今为止宇宙中最大的原子气体结构，尺度比银河系大20倍。

The international journal Nature yesterday published the findings. An international team led by Chinese scientists observed a group of galaxies known as Stephan’s Quintet. They found a mammoth【巨大的】 low-density gaseous【气态的】 structure existed in a relatively far location from the center of theStephan’s Quintet. The atomic cloud is roughly 2 million light years wide and made up of hydrogen【氢气】 atoms. The scientists suggested there might be more large-scale, low-density atomic gas structures in space. The discovery challenges the current understanding of how the galaxies and the gaseous structure evolved in the universe.

It used to take three to four months to apply for a subsidy. After the online service was launched, it takes only around 15 days.

The online service portal【门户网站】 will also roll out transportation subsidies for the disabled next month. With the help of big data and AI technology, those who are eligible【合格的】 can enjoy the service without applications.

In breaking news, UK Prime Minister Liz Truss has announced she is resigning as the leader of the Conservative Party. Yesterday, UK Home Secretary Suella Braverman resigned after breaching【违反】 a security rule, but not before taking part in shots at Truss. Zhang Yue has more.

In her resignation letter posted on Twitter, Braverman cited her "technical infringement【违反】 of the rules" as she had sent an official document from her personal email. She, however, went on to express concerns over Truss’s government and its U-turns on its promises to the people. Later on, Truss’s office said "Chief and deputy chief whip【<英>党员资格】 remain in post," referring to Morton and her colleague Craig Whittaker, after reports said they had left government during a chaotic evening of quarreling in parliament over a vote on fracking【水力压裂法】. The prime minister, who has been in office for only six weeks, vowed to stay on and take the party to the next general election.

What’s even worse, the rate of inflation in the UK now sits just below the 40-year high of 10.2%, which was set in February 1982.
