东门之墠，茹藘在阪。其室则迩，其人甚远。
东门之栗，有践家室。岂不尔思？子不我即！

At eastern gate on level ground
There are madder plants all around.
My lover's house is very near，
But far away he does appear.

Neath chestnut tree at eastern gate
Within my house in vain I wait.
How can I not think of my dear?
Why won't he come to see me here?
