不知命无以为君子

子曰：“不知命，无以为君子也；不知礼，无以立也；不知言，无以知人也。”

【翻译】

 孔子说：“不懂得天命，就没有可能成为君子，不懂得礼，就没有办法宣身处世，不知道分辨别人的言语，便不能了解别人。”

 The Master said: “ Without recognizing theordinances of Heaven, it is impossible to be a superior man. Without anacquaintance with the rules of Propriety, it si impossible for the character tobe established. Without knowing the force of words, it is impossible to knowmen.

辜鸿铭：

Confuciusremarked：‘ Without religion a man cannot be a good and wise man； without knowledge of the arts and of the principles of art， a man cannot form his judgment； without theknowledge of the use of language, a man cannot judge of and know the characterof a men.”
