以直报怨 以德报德

或曰：“以德报怨，何如？”子曰：“何以报德？以直报怨，以德报德。”

译文

有人说：“用恩德来回报怨恨，怎么样？”孔子说：“那用什么来回报恩德呢？用正直来回报怨恨，用恩德来回报恩德。”

Someone said, “What do your say concerning the principle that injury should berecompensed with kindness?” The Master said: “ With what then will yourecompense kindness? Recompense injury with justice, and recompense kindesswith kindness.”

辜鸿铭：

Someoneon one occasion enquired of Confucius, saying:” what do you say of requitinginquiry with kindness?” Confucius replied, “ how will then requited kindness?  Requited injury with  justice and kindness with kindness.”
