China, Pakistan hold joint maritime drill

中巴“海洋卫士-2”海上联合演习开幕

A four-day joint maritime exercise between China and Pakistan kicked off on Sunday. The drill, codenamed Sea Guardians-2, is a normal activities under a yearly plan between the two militaries, said Liu Wensheng, spokesperson for the People's Liberation Army Navy. It is not related to any regional situation and does not target any third party, Liu added. 
7月10日，为期4天的中巴海上联合演习拉开序幕。海军新闻发言人刘文胜海军大校表示此次代号“海洋卫士-2”的联合演习是中巴两国海军根据年度计划作出的正常安排，与地区局势无关，不针对任何第三方。

The joint exercise aims to enhance defense cooperation, exchange expertise and experience, deepen the traditional friendship between the two countries and militaries and promote the development of the China-Pakistan strategic cooperative partnership.
联演旨在增进双方防务合作、交流专业技术与经验、深化两国两军传统友谊，促进中巴全天候战略合作伙伴关系发展。

National botanical garden opens in Guangzhou
华南国家植物园正式揭牌

China's second national botanical garden opened on Monday in Guangzhou. Built on the current South China Botanical Garden in the eastern part of the city, its establishment was approved by the State Council in June. 
我国第二家国家植物园——华南国家植物园11日在广州正式揭牌。华南国家植物园是在位于广州市东部的中国科学院华南植物园的基础上建成的，于今年6月经国务院批准建立。

With 333 hectares of exhibition and scientific research areas, it is the world's largest south subtropical botanical garden, as well as one of China's oldest institutions for botanical research and conservation. In the next three to five years, a national plant conservation center will be established there to effectively protect 95 percent of rare and endangered plants in South China.
园区展览和科研用地333公顷，是目前世界上最大的南亚热带植物园，是我国历史最悠久的植物学研究和保护机构之一。未来3到5年还将建立华南国家植物迁地保护中心，使华南地区珍稀濒危植物的95%得到有效保护。

NASA unveils first full-color images from Webb

NASA on Tuesday showcased the first full-color images captured by the James Webb Space Telescope. Taken by the telescope’s Near-Infrared Camera, the image – dubbed Webb's First Deep Field – captured thousands of galaxies in sharp detail.  
当地时间11日，美国国家航空航天局（NASA）公布了詹姆斯·韦伯太空望远镜拍摄的首张全彩色照片。这张照片名为“韦布的首次深空”，是韦伯望远镜拍摄到迄今为止最深的宇宙红外图像。

The image showcases the galaxy cluster SMACS 0723 as it appeared 4.6 billion years ago, according to NASA. The $10 billion project is the world's largest and most powerful space observatory ever built. The telescope was launched into space last December from Europe's Spaceport in Kourou, French Guiana. 
NASA表示，照片内容为星系团SMACS 0723，包含了数千个星系，距离地球46亿光年。詹姆斯·韦伯天空望远镜造价100亿美元，是NASA迄今建造的最大、功能最强的空间望远镜。该望远镜去年12月从位于法属圭亚那库鲁的欧洲宇航中心发射升空。

Flood-proof floating houses invented in Japan
日本推出定制“抗洪屋”防水还能漂浮

A Japanese housing developer recently unveiled a “flood-resistant house” that can not only remain waterproof during floods, but also float off the ground. The house is connected to a number of thick iron rods sticking out of the ground with thick cables that ensure it stays in place as the water floods past. When the waters recede, the floating house comes back down to its original position. 
日本一家房地产开发商最近推出了一款“抗洪屋”，当洪水来袭时它不仅防水，还能浮起来。这座房子与许多伸出地面的粗铁棒相连，铁棒上带有粗缆绳，以确保洪水泛滥时房屋保持在原位。当洪水退去时，漂浮的房子会回到原来的位置。

It also features special vents that close in the event of flooding, and the plumbing has special valves that prevent water from getting into the home.
