Unit 14 A frightening experience

Sometimes we frighten ourselves to such an extent that we tend to make bad judgements, for which we may have to pay a terrible price. There is a deserted, two-story building in our neighborhood. No one dares to go near it because it is believed to be haunted by ghosts. One night, however, a group of five boys, including me, decided to explore it. It had been agreed among us that whoever stayed there the longest would prove to be the bravest. After some hesitation, we finally summoned up the courage to enter the house. It was cold, dark and damp in there. We remained downstairs because there seemed to be some strange noise coming from upstairs. Then one of us let out a scream when he saw his own shadow on the wall. The scream made us all rush out of the door. Sadly, Todd tripped on something and broke his arm. We had to hail a taxi and send him to a nearby hospital. According to the doctor, he might have to stay there for a while. But the luck of the rest of us was no better because we were all punished by our parents later.
