Non-cash payments up during Spring Festival
春节假期非现金支付交易14.9万亿元

Non-cash payments handled by Chinese banks saw an increase during the seven-day Spring Festival holiday, according to China's central bank. Non-cash payments stood at 14.9 trillion yuan from Jan 31 to Feb 6, up 16.2 percent year-on-year, the People's Bank of China said on Monday. Of the total, non-cash retail transactions of commercial tenants saw strong performance during the holidays, posting an increase of 22.9 percent year-on-year. 中国人民银行2月7日出炉的最新数据显示，2022年1月31日除夕至2月6日正月初六，全国非现金支付金额14.9万亿元，较去年同期分别增长16.2%。其中，零售类商户非现金交易表现强劲，支付金额较去年同期增长22.9%。

Meanwhile, transactions in the catering sector gained 29.6 percent year-on-year as demand related to gatherings surged, the central bank said. Transactions in the transport sector climbed 18.8 percent from the year before, while those for hotel bookings surged 26.9 percent.
春节期间亲朋聚会等餐饮消费需求旺盛，餐饮类商户支付金额较去年同期增长29.6%。交通行业商户支付金额较去年同期增长18.8%，酒店住宿类商户支付金额较去年同期增长26.9%。

Short track skater claims China's second gold
冬奥短道速滑任子威摘金

China's short-track speed skating team brought the host nation its second gold medal at Beijing 2022, with an in-form Ren Ziwei winning the men's 1,000-meter event on Monday.

Box office revenues during the weeklong Spring Festival holiday were at their second-highest ever during the period, signaling a good start to the Year of the Tiger. During the holiday, which ended on Sunday, Chinese cinemas earned 6 billion yuan, edging out the 5.9 billion yuan raked in during the 2019 festival period acc ording to movie data tracking service Beacon. 
2022年春节档总票房突破60亿元，位列中国影史春节档总票房第二，预示着虎年的良好开端。票房数据追踪机构"灯塔"实时数据显示，2022年1月31日至2月6日，我国电影票房达60亿元，高于2019年春节档59亿元的成绩。

Living up to the expectations of most industry insiders, The Battle at Lake Changjin II－an epic sequel set during the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea (1950-53)－was the top moneymaker of the eight films that debuted during the festival period. It earned 2.5 billion yuan, accounting for more than 40 percent of the country's overall box office receipts during the festival. Too Cool to Kill, a comedy remake of the 2008 Japanese hit The Magic Hour, was the second-highest earner (1.39 billion yuan), followed by Nice View (668 million yuan), which recounts a miraculous startup business story.

The Prince of Wales has paid tribute to his "darling wife" the Duchess of Cornwall for her "steadfast support" after the Queen announced Camilla will be known as "Queen Consort" when Charles becomes king.
