06.农夫救人|Farmer to the rescue

A farmer rescued his wife from a flood and his child was drowned. Afterwards, there was much debate. Some said he had done the right thing, for the child could have another, but the wife could not die and come back to life. Some said that he had done wrong because his wife could marry another, but the child could not die and come back to life. As I listened to the people's comments, I was also puzzled: if only one person could be saved, should I save the wife or the child?
So I went to visit the farmer and asked him what he was thinking at the time. He replied: "I didn't think anything. When the flood came, my wife was beside me and I grabbed her and swam for the nearby hillside. When I returned, the child had been swept away by the flood." On the way back, I pondered the farmer's words and said to myself: that is quite a few of the so-called choices in life.
