1. 指一个向上的动作
(1)Jump up:
- He jumped up the stair.
他跳上了楼梯。
(2) Get up
- He gets up very early everyday.
他每天起得很早。
- Get up from your seat.
从你的座位上起来。
(3) Climb up
- He climbed up the ladder to get to the roof top.
他爬上梯子到达屋顶。
(4) Sit up
- How many sit-ups can you do?
你能做几个仰卧起坐?
(5) Look up: to look upwards; to search; to respect
- Look up here! There is bird’s nest.
看上面这里!有一个鸟巢。
- Whenever she comes across with a new word, she looks it up in the dictionary.
每当她遇到一个生词,她就查字典。
- He’s a great leader. Everyone in his team looked up to him.
他是一个很棒的领袖。他团队里的每个人都很尊敬他。
- She’s a role model for other players to look up to.
她是其他球员敬仰的榜样。
2. 指朝向某个地方
(1)Drive up
- A car drove up to us while we were standing in front of the gate.
当我们正站在大门口时,一辆汽车向我们开过来。
(2) Move up
- I thought he liked California. Why did he move up here?
我以为他喜欢加州。他为什么搬到这里来了?
- Move up and make some room for more people to come in.
请往前挪,给更多的人腾出地方来。
- From a salesman to a manager, he moved up the ladder in such a short period of time.
他在这么短的时间内从销售员晋升为经理。
3. 指完全(吃、用等)完了
(1) Eat up
- They ate up all the soup.
他们把汤喝光了。
(2) Use up
- I’ve used up all the onions.
我把洋葱都吃光了。
(3) Finish up
- I’ll finish up the report in 5minutes.
我将在5分钟内完成这份报告。
(4) Dry up
- We had a serious draught this year. The river is about to dry up.
今年我们遭遇了严重的旱灾。这条河就要干涸了。
(5) Time is up
- Put down your pen now. Time’s up.
放下你的笔。时间到了。
3. 其它常见用法
(1)Put up
- I can’t put up with his behavior anymore. He got to do something about it.
我再也不能容忍他的行为了。他必须得做点什么。
(2) Keep up with
- I found it hard to keep up with the class.
我发现很难跟上班上的进度。
(3) Give a heads up
- I’ll give you a heads up when I hear an update from them.
当我听到他们的最新消息时,我会通知你的。
