Huck Finn's wealth and the fact that he was now under the Widow Douglas’ protection introduced him into society.
His sufferings were unbearable. The widow's servants kept him clean, and they bedded him every night in clean sheets. He now had to eat with a knife and fork.He also had to use napkins, cups, and plates.
He had to read, and he had to go to church.
He had become prisoner to the shackles of
civilization.
He bravely bore his miseries for three weeks. Then, one day,he went missing.
The widow looked for him desperately for forty-eight hours. The villagers were also concerned. They looked everywhere and searched the river for his body.
Early the third morning,Tom Sawyer found Huck smoking in one of his secret spots .He was unkempt, uncombed, and wearing the same old ruined rags that had made him picturesque in the days even he was free and happy.Tom told him the trouble he had been causing, and urged him to come home with him.
