The king had infused a deadly poison to the drink in case Hamlet should survive the fencing match. He had forgotten to warn the queen about the bowl, and she died immediately. Hamlet, suspecting some treachery, ordered the doors to be shut, while he sought the truth behind the treachery.
“Seek no farther.”said Laertes, feeling his life fade away with the wound which Hamlet had given him."I am the traitor.”
The dying man confessed the treachery he had used and how he had become victim to his own crime. Then he told Hamlet about the poison, and said that Hamlet had less than half an hour to live, for no medicine could cure him. Then he died, begging for forgiveness from Hamlet, with his last words accusing the king of being the contriver of the mischief.
When Hamlet realized that his end was near,he turned upon his uncle and thrust the point of the venomous sword into his heart. Now he had fulfilled the promise which he had made to his father's spirit.
Then Hamlet, feeling his breath fail and life departing, turned to his old friend Horatio, who had witnessed this fatal tragedy .He grabbed Horatio's hand,as he had made a motion as if he were about to kill himself to accompany his friend in death.
“You must live to tell my story to the world."said Hamlet.
Then the noble heart of Hamlet stopped, and Horatio and the bystanders commended the spirit of this sweet prince to the guardianship of angels. Hamlet was a loving and a gentle prince and greatly beloved for his many noble qualities. If he had lived to succeed his father,he would no doubt have become the most royal King of Denmark.
