Laboratory-grown pork could be mass-produced in China within four years, a company has claimed. Shanghai-based firm CellX has made prototype pork from cells harvested from the country's native black pig. 

The product – touted for its environmental credentials – was unveiled on Friday. One guest at the launch, who tried a dish made of the minced pork combined with plant protein, said: 'The taste is on the bland side ... but overall it's not bad.'

Lab-grown chicken meat was sold to consumers for the first time in Singapore last year, but there are currently no regulations permitting its sale in China.
