Unit 1 Section B 2b

片头:We are not small. We are beautiful.

The Climb,有伴奏)“I can almost see it. That dream I'm dreamin' but there's a voice inside my head saying you'll never reach it ...”

女:Hello, guys ! This is Dianna. Chris!

Aron is the kind of climber who likes to challenge himself by climbing cliffs and mountains alone.

I see. His dream is to conquer the mountains.

女:That’s right. But it’s not easy for him to achieve his goals. Accidents always happen when he climbs the mountain.

男:  I can’t wait to read his stories.

OK!Let’s get started !

So let’s keep the question in mind and turn to page 6, Section B 2b.

男:Aron Ralston is an American man who is interested in mountain climbing. As a mountain climber, Aron is used to taking risks. This is one of the exciting things about doing dangerous sports. There were many times when Aron almost lost his life because of accidents.

:I seem to know something about Aron. His nationality is America. His hobby is mountain climbing. He is used to taking risks. His experience was exciting and dangerous.

对了这里同学们要记笔记罗!be used to doing sth是说习惯于做某事。

As we all know, accidents may happen when we climb the mountain alone. Did Aron meet anything dangerous? When and where did the accident happen?

男:Yes, Aron almost lost his life because of accidents. On April 26, 2003, he found himself in a very dangerous situation when climbing in Utah.

What happened next?

男:On that day, Aron’s arm was caught under a 360-kilo rock that fell on him when he was climbing by himself in the mountains. 在这个句子中,be caught(get caught)的意思相当于get stuck(被卡住而不得动弹)。

女 What a dangerous situation it was! How did Aron free himself?

男: He used his knife to cut off half his right arm. Then, with his left arm, he bandaged himself so that he would not lose too much blood. After that, he climbed down the mountain to find help.

What a brave man! He saved himself.

女:What a shock!

It's quite unbelievable!

I am sure it is worth watching. And then what did he do after the accident?

男:After losing his arm, he wrote a book called Between a Rock and a Hard Place. In this book, Aron tells of the importance of making good decisions, and of being in control of one's life. And he is still climbing.

Between Rock and Hard Place means being in a difficult situation that you cannot seem to get out of. Why is Aron still climbing after this experience?

His love for mountain climbing is so great that he kept on climbing mountains even after this experience.

Who is Aron? When and where did accidents happen? How did he free his arm? What did he do after the accident? Why is he still climbing?

Finding the order of Events.

Because Aron’s dream is to conquer the mountains. He makes his dream come true by climbing to the top of the mountain. Do you have the same spirit as Aron?

Dianna, What would you do if you were between a rock and a hard place and you had to make a decision which could mean life or death ?

Em... When I have to make a decision that could mean life or death, I will try to be brave to save my life. After all, life is the most important for me.

I think it is that Aron tells us with his actions. Never give up. Make right decision. Keep on going.

Yep. Aron never gives up and fights for the last minute. He inspires people to hold on, and his spirit moves so many people.

Between a Rock and a Hard Place也可以观看根主人公的故事改编并观看的电影“127Hours”.

We only part to meet again!

男:See you next time, bye!
