鼓励妹妹去工作

我的表妹辞去上一份工作已经半年了，有一天社区给她打电话给她介绍一份行政中心的窗口工作，她不是很想去。我劝她说，这份工作不是很累，但至少可以不与社会脱节，同时有一份稳定的工作也能让父母更加放心。她就同意打算试一试了。我鼓励她去做这份工作是希望她能重拾对生活的斗志。

Encouraging other people to do things they don’t want to do isn’t always a wise choice, because we have no right to interfere with other people’s life, especially topersuade them into（劝某人做某事） doing something they’re not willing to do. However, I have done it and I’d like to tell you about it.

One day, the council offered my cousin a job in the city’s administrative center. She hadn’t worked for 6 months after unexpectedly quitting her last job, soupon hearing the offer her family thought it was a good idea, although sheshowed little interest（不感兴趣）. So, I met her and had a deep conversation with her. I said that she didn’t have to work around the clock, but she just needed a job to live a regular life and play her part in society. Besides, having a stable job was a comfort to her parents, which made them worry less about her. Finally, she agreed togive it a shot（尝试）. After several weeks, things were going great and we were glad to see her get back on track.

I chose to encourage her to take the job because I hoped she could regain her passion for life, and itturned out（结果是） to be the right move for her. In this case, I believe encouraging people to do things they don’t want to do isn’t about force. It’s not a high-pressure way to get people to do what you want. It’s not trickery and it’s not mind games. When you use persuasion, you genuinely want the person you’re trying to persuade to have the benefit that you’re offering them. You want to help them.
