Confucianism in China 第2674期 Confucius(孔子) is one of China’s most famous thinkers. He lived in between 551 and 479 B.C. Confucius was a government official. He believed that a good government was important for a happy society(社会). And a good government needed good officials. A good official had to be “Ren” — kind to other people. Later, Confucius decided to become a teacher. He went to many places and spread his ideas all around the country. He had more than 3,000 students. Many of them later became famous in history. After Confucius died, Mengzi and Dong Zhongshu added more values(价值观) to Confucianism(儒教). There are five main virtues in Confucianism: · Ren for being kind · Yi for believing in justice · Li for having good habits and respecting(尊重) other people · Zhi for having much knowledge · Xin for being loyal(忠诚的) Chinese people have followed Confucianism for more than 2,000 years. It has also spread to other countries like Japan.
