CHAPTER16 THE RETURN HOME 第十六章 回家

“Won’t you play me to sleep,” he asked, “on the nursery piano?”

“你不弹琴助我入眠吗？”他问道，“就用婴儿房的钢琴。”

and as she was crossing to the day-nursery he added thoughtlessly, “And shut that window. I feel a draught.”

当达林夫人朝日间儿童房走去时，他又欠考虑地补充了一句，“顺便把那扇窗户关上吧，我觉得外面有风。”

1、thoughtlessly adv. 粗心大意地; 欠考虑地; 轻率地;

2、draught n. 穿堂风; 通风气流; 通风;

这是第一次窗户险些被关上，幸好这个请求被达林太及时拒绝了。

 “O, George, never ask me to do that. The window must always be left open for them, always, always.”

“哦，乔治，千万别让我那么做。窗户必须永远为他们开着，永远！”

Now it was his turn to beg her pardon; and she went into the day-nursery and played, and soon he was asleep; 

现在轮到达林先生请求妻子的原谅了。达林夫人走进儿童房弹起了钢琴，不一会儿达林先生就睡着了。

3、beg one’s pardon 请某人原谅；再说一遍；pardon?

and while he slept,Wendy and John and Michael flew into the room. 

而就在他睡觉的时候，温蒂、约翰和迈克尔飞进了房间。

Oh no. We have written it so, because that was the charming arrangement planned by them before we left the ship;

哦，不！我们刚才之所以这么写，是因为我们离开船的时候，孩子们做的美妙安排确实是这样的。

but something must have happened since then, for it is not they who have flown in, it is Peter and Tinker Bell. 

但后来一定发生了什么事。因为现在飞进来的不是他们，而是彼得和叮叮。

Peter’s first words tell all. “Quick, Tink,” he whispered, “close the window; bar it! That’s right. Now you and I must get away by the door; and when Wendy comes she will think her mother has barred her out, and she will have to go back with me.”

彼得一开口就说明了一切。“快，叮叮，”他轻声说，“关上窗户，闩好！对了，现在你我必须从门出去了。等温蒂回来，她就会以为她妈妈把她关在了外面，那她就不得不跟我回去了。”

He did not know the tune, which was “Home, Sweet Home,” 

他不知道此刻弹的这首曲子名字叫做“家，甜蜜的家”，

4、Home, Sweet Home 在欧美是一首家喻户晓的歌谣，传唱度极高。它是英国作曲家Henry Rowley Bishop(1786-1855) 亨利·罗利·毕晓普的作品。

but he knew it was saying, “Come back, Wendy, Wendy, Wendy”; and he cried exultantly, “You will never see Wendy again, lady, for the window is barred!”

但他听见曲子里说“回家来吧，温蒂，温蒂，温蒂”，他扬扬得意地喊道：“你将永远也见不到温蒂了，女士，因为窗户已经关上了！”

CHAPTER17 WHEN WENDY GREW UP 第十七章 温蒂长大了

Peter continued to cry, and soon his sobs woke Jane. 

彼得还在哭，不久他的哭声吵醒了简。

She sat up in bed, and was interested at once. 

简从床上坐了起来，立即对彼得产生了兴趣。

“Boy,” she said, “why are you crying?” 

“男孩儿，”她说，“你为什么哭呀？”

Peter rose and bowed to her, and she bowed to him from the bed. 

彼得起身对她鞠了一躬，简在床上也朝他鞠了一躬。

“Hullo,” he said. “Hullo,” said Jane. “My name is Peter Pan,” he told her.

“你好。”彼得说。“你好。”简说。“我的 名字是彼得·潘。”他告诉她。

 “Yes, I know.” “I came back for my mother,” he explained, “to take her to the Neverland.” 

“是的，我知道。”“我是来接我妈妈的，”彼得解释说，“带她去梦幻岛。”

“Yes, I know,” Jane said, “I have been waiting for you.”

“是的，我知道，”简说，“我一直在等你。”

德国著名哲学家弗里德里希·尼采说：He who has a “why” to live for can bear almost any “how”.只要一个人知道了为什么而活，那他就能忍受几乎任何关于how的问题，也就是怎么活的问题。
