When I was 17, I read a quote that went something like, if you live each day as if it were your last, someday you'll most certainly be right. 
在我17岁的时候,我读到了一句话,说的是,如果你把每天都当作生命中的最后一天来过,终有一日,你会发现,你会有所成就。

It made an impression on me. And since then, for the past 33 years, I've looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself, if today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today? 
这句话让我印象深刻。从那时开始,在接下来的33年中,每天早上,我都看着镜子中的自己,问自己,如果今天是我生命中的最后一天,我会想做什么?这件事,是我今天本来打算要去做的事吗?

And whenever the answer has been No for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something. 
如果,连续几天,我的回答都是,不,那么,我就知道,我需要做出改变了。

Remembering that I'll be dead soon is the most important tool I've ever encountered to help me make the big choices in life. Because almost everything, all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure, these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important.
