Recently I heard a saying that the average life span of the people who like participating in sports is three years longer than those who don't like it. What do you think about this number? Three years! Who cares! I can live to 100 years old, and I still have 97 years if three years are cut out. Who cares these three years! Definitely quite a few people have the same opinion. However, you must have ignored something very important. Have you ever considered life quality? Nowadays, modern medical technology can keep even a dying person being alive as long as possible, but that is completely meaningless. For those people who have illness because of bad habits, i. e. lack of physical exercise, the longer they live, the lower their life quality may be.
Some of you may say "We like participating in sports, but we don't have time because life is always so busy. I understand that. We all understand that. It proves a saying :"The resistance keeping you from doing something is how many excuses you can find. Isn’t it right?
I used to be lazy for sport as well. What changed my mind suddenly? Here I would like to tell you that story. Two years ago, I visited Dragonair in Hong Kong. During the lunch break, I saw a unique scene that normally I couldn't see in China's mainland. Quite a lot of people got off seats, and went to gyms or went swimming. Then I figured out why they did so: Because Hong Kong is a fast-paced city with so much pressure on living, the lunch break is probably the freest fime they can fully control, and they also understand physical exercise is very important to maintain health, so they make good use of the lunch break. Wow! I was so inspired by that. After coming back, even though my previous employer did not have any sports facilities, it didn't matter. I developed my own plan. During one hour's lunch break, in the first half an hour when all my colleagues went to the canteen, I did exercise alone in the office—running or jumping on the spot, push-up, etc. When colleagues were returning, I was already drenched in sweat and then went a shower. In the last few
minutes, I grabbed a lunch. Haha, that was my plan.
Won't you feel tired in the afternoon? " some of you may have this question. Just the opposite. I felt much more energetic! As most of us engage in mental work, the feeling of fatigue or lack of energy is from our brains, not our bodies. When we are doing physical exercise, our brains actually are taking a rest.
In recent years, I like long distance jogging. In crazy October, I had cumulatively finished around 60 kilometers’ jogging. I trained myself hard, because originally I had planned to participate in a marathon in Shenzhen last year. At the beginning, I didn't think I could finish five kilometers' jogging without any stop. Later I thought five kilometers was just a short distance compared to a real marathon, so I made up my mind that no matter what, I must make it non-stop. After setting such a goal, I did not think much of the pain during the running but just focused on the goal. It suddenly proved that I could make it non-stop. Friends, you can see how powerful the goal set in your mind can be, it can unconsciously influence your behaviors to achieve success.
Sports life doesn't mean you have to spend a lot of time and money going to the gym every day. Rather, sports life is a life attitude you choose to have. Don't find any excuse for not doing physical exercise, make good use of the free time you have, get rid of bad habits and eventually you will have a longer life with better quality. Enjoy your sports!

I'd like to share with you my knowledge of the Olympic Games.
The Olympic Games should be traced back to the ancient times. The Greeks were very fond of all sports that could make the body strong. Once in four years they had a great festival to celebrate what they called the Olympian Games. Many thousands of people came together upon a wide plain to see the contests of skill among men and boys from all parts of Greece. The great games were running races, wrestling matches, horse races. and chariot races. There were games for boys as well as for men.
In most of the games the men and boys wore little or no clothing, and had their bodies oiled. The prizes seemed very simple; they were nothing more than crowns made of leaves of the wild olive tree; but to wear one of these crowns was the greatest honor, and he went home covered with glory.
Ancient athletes competed as individuals, not on national teams. as in the modern Games. The emphasis on individual athletic achievement through public competition was related to the Greek ideal of excellence. Aristocratic men who attained this ideal, through their outstanding words or deeds, won permanent glory and fame.
Those who were discovered cheating were fined, and the money was used to make bronze statues of Zeus, which were erected on the road to the stadium. The statues were inscribed with messages describing the offenses, warning others not to cheat, reminding athletes that victory was won by skill and not by money.
Today, the Olympic Games are the greatest festival of sport in the world. Every four years, 100 or more countries send their best sportsmen to compete for the highest honors in sport. For the winners, there are gold medals and glory. But there is honor, too, for all who compete, win or lose. That is in the spirit of the Olympics— to take part is what matters.
The Olympic Games always start in a bright color and action. The teams of all the nations parade in the opening ceremony and march round the track. The custom is for the Greek team to march in first. for it was in Greece that the Olympics began. The team of the country where the Games are being held—the host country—marches in last. The runner with the Olympic torch then enters the stadium and lights the flame. A sportsman from the host country takes the Olympic oath on behalf of all the competitors. The judges and officials also take an oath. After the sportsmen march out of the stadium, the host country puts on a wonderful display.
The competitions begin the next day. Victory ceremonies take place after each contest. The first three winners in each receive medals. While the flags of the three countries represented are hoisted, a band plays the national anthem of the winning athlete's homeland
At the closing ceremony each country is represented by no more than six athletes. They again march into the stadium, but this time the contestants mingle without regard to nationality as a symbol of OlympIc brotherhood. An Olympic official declares the Games closed and invites the athletes to the site of the next Olympics.
