Meghan Markle has flown back to Canada amid an escalating royal crisis in the wake of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's announcement that they are planning to “step back” from royal life.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle outlined their intentions to become “financially independent” and still support the Queen with royal duties, though critics have questioned whether this is feasible.
