五道口，看美剧学五个地道实用的表达！

1. at my mercy（S04E10)

at my mercy: 字面意思是向我求饶，所以引申为任人摆布，任由…处置；对…无能为力。

常见为at the mercy of sb/sth

小孩的生活常受制于他们的父母：Children's life was often at the mercy of their parents. 

我们的计划经常受制于天气，并且无能为力：Our plans were at the mercy of the weather. There is nothing to be done.

2. make headway（S04E10）

make headway 取得进展；渐入佳境。同义make progress; 

剧中，Monica误以为和新同事的关系，渐入佳境，就用到这个表达：I was making headway. 

几个月后，我们的项目有了些进展：Months later, we make some headway on our project. 

谈判没有什么进展，依然处于僵局：we are at a stalemate and making little headway with the negotiations.

3. throwing themselves at me （S04E07）

throwing themselves at sb. throw 有扔的意思，那么，把自己扔向某人，不就是投怀送抱吗？

剧中，Chandler帮Rachel介绍对象，没想到公司的一帮小伙都想和Rachel交往，于是都讨好Chandler. 

Chandler说：Guys are throwing themselves at me. 大家对我投怀送抱。

都说演艺圈很难有真实的感情，往往女孩对男孩一往情深，付出一切，把自己弄的像个傻子：she is throwing herself at that man, making a complete fool of herself. 

4. get sb riled up （S04E11）

rile 做动词，使激怒，get sb (all) riled up 就是激怒某人，让人火大的意思，同义，burn sb up. 

朋友一脸不高兴，你问他：what's got you so riled up? 你为什么如此火大？前阵子，莫雷的言论掀起了我们中国人民的愤怒：Morey's comments riled Chinese people up.

5. pan out （S4E13）

pan out. 奏效；取得成果，同义work out; to succeed; pull off. 

剧中，因为Joey教的一套理论，Chanlder和从事演艺工作的女朋友闹矛盾了。

Joey辩解说，很多理论无法在现实中践行的，他是这么说的：There are a lot of theories that didn't pan out. 

he wants to start a new business, but his plans didn't pan out. 他想创业，但他的计划没有成功。
