PASSAGE 20：Why Should We Protectthe Environment? 

It is important to protect the environmentbecause man-made disruptions to ecosystems can cause extinction and becausepollution creates dangers for both animals and people.

Many of the dangers to the environment comefrom practices designed to make human life easier but actually threaten thelong-term health and prosperity of humans.

One of the most important reasons to protectthe environment is because it helps protect different ecosystems. Over the years,humans have discovered that many ecosystems are more complex than wasoriginally thought and are deeply connected to other ecosystems.

Human changes to one ecosystem, whetherthrough environmental pollution or deliberate manipulation, can actually putmultiple species in danger of extinction, necessitating the need to protect theenvironment.

Protecting the environment also protectshumanity. A great deal of pollution, especially ocean pollution, ends upaffecting creatures that humans later consume, meaning that humans areingesting toxins.

我们为何要保护环境？

保护环境非常重要，因人为干扰生态体系会导致物种灭绝，也因污染对人和动物都造成危害。

许多危害环境的因素来自人类为了生活便利的所作所为，但是长期来看这些行为威胁监考和人类的繁荣。

保护环境最重要的原因之一是因为可以保护不同生态体系。多年以来，人类已经发觉生态体系比原来想的要复杂得多，而各个生态体系深刻联系。

无论是通过环境污染还是故意人为行径，人类改变一个生态体系，然后会把许多物种都置于濒临灭绝的危险中，保护环境义不容辞。

保护环境也是保护人类。许多污染尤其是海洋污染，最终的结局是影响人类会消耗的物种，也就是说人类在食毒素。
