A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket exploded on its launch pad in Cape Canaveral during pre-flight tests.

The satellite it was due to carry into orbit on Saturday (which FB had planned to use to provide internet access in developing countries) was also destroyed. 

The accident jeopardizes the planned sale of Spacecom, the Israeli operator of the satellite, to Beijing Xinwei Technology, a Chinese conglomerate.

In an unusual avowal of its offensive digital capability, America’s secretary of defense, Ashton Carter, said the Pentagon’s Cyber Command was attacking Isla. State: “really its first wartime assignment”. 

Lawmakers and military chiefs are considering whether to create a new separate combatant command for America’s cyber-warriors,alongside special forces, transport, strategic (currently nuclear-plus-cyber) and the six geographic commands.
