Customers at Joe Nicchi's ice-cream truck have increasingly had the same demand: give us your ice-cream for free. CVT Soft Serve, a popular truck in Los Angeles, has started to receive weekly requests from self-proclaimed Instagram "influencers" who promise to post a photo of Nicchi's ice-cream – if they don't have to pay.

Nicchi has always said no, but this week he found an unusual way to profit off of the influencers: he publicly told them to go away. Nicchi went viral after posting a sign that said "influencers pay double", writing on Instagram that he would "never give you a free ice-cream in exchange for a post".

The image, tagged #InfluencersAreGross, spread around the globe, and now Nicchi says his business is booming, attracting fans across southern California who share his disdain of influencers. "We're the anti-influencer influencers," he told the Guardian.

Kim Darroch has resigned as the United Kingdom ambassador to the US following a dispute over leaked emails that criticized US President Donald Trump. In a statement released by the UK Foreign Office on Wednesday, Darroch said he wanted to put an end to speculation over his position, after the leaked cables sparked a diplomatic spat between the UK and the US.

In leaked emails published by British media on Sunday, Darroch labeled the Trump administration "dysfunctional", "unpredictable", and "diplomatically clumsy and inept". Trump rounded on Darroch on Twitter, calling him "a stupid guy" and saying the US would "no longer deal with him".

US to probe French tech tax

The US has launched a Section 301 investigation into the digital services tax of the government of France, the Office of the US Trade Representative (USTR) announced on Wednesday. "The US is very concerned that the digital services tax which is expected to pass the French Senate tomorrow unfairly targets American companies," USTR Robert Lighthizer said in a statement. 
美国贸易代表办公室10日宣布，美国已对法国政府推出的数字服务税发起301调查。美国贸易代表罗伯特•莱特希泽在声明中表示：“我们非常担心数字服务税是在不公平地针对美国公司，该税法预计11日将在法国参议院通过。”

"The President has directed that we investigate the effects of this legislation and determine whether it is discriminatory or unreasonable and burdens or restricts US commerce," Lighthizer said.

According to the USTR's Office, France's proposed 3% tax would hit tech companies with total annual revenues from the covered digital services of at least 750 million euros globally and 25 million euros in France. About 1.63 million residents have been affected by heavy downpours and floods in South China, with about 77,000 resettled after the latest rainfalls, according to the Ministry of Emergency Management. Heavy rainfalls have swollen rivers in Chongqing municipality, Guizhou, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Hunan, Sichuan provinces and Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, the ministry said.
