A lotus blossomed on Sunday for the first time in Yuanmingyuan, or the Old Summer Palace, from a seed unearthed in 2017 that had been underground for a hundred years. In 2017, 11 100-year-old lotus seeds were discovered at Jingxiangchi inside Yuanmingyuan when staffers were doing archaeological work. 
7日，圆明园考古出土的百年古莲子首次开花。2017年，工作人员在圆明园镜香池考古时发现了11颗百年古莲子。

It was the first time that ancient lotus seeds had been found since archaeological excavations were carried out at Yuanmingyuan. In 2018, the Institute of Botany at the Chinese Academy of Sciences conducted a cultivation experiment on eight of the lotus seeds. 
这是圆明园进行考古发掘工作以来首次发现古莲子的存在。2018年，中国科学院植物研究所对其中8颗古莲子进行了培育实验。

Six sprouted, grew leaves, took root and spent the winter in a greenhouse. One flower blossomed on Sunday after it was transplanted at the lotus base in Yuanmingyuan in April.

Members of Britain's elite, who hold the top jobs in politics, the judiciary, media and business, are five times more likely to have been to private school than the general population, according to a research.
研究表明，在政治、司法、媒体和商业领域身居要职的英国精英群体接受过私立学校教育的可能性是普通人的5倍之多。

The study by the Sutton Trust and the Social Mobility Commission found that a tiny elite of privately educated people, many of whom went to Oxbridge, continue to dominate high-ranking jobs, where 39% had an independent education, compared with 7% of the general population.

Disney dropped the first trailer for its action-packed live remake of 1998 animated classic "Mulan" on Sunday. The original "Mulan" grossed more than $300 million worldwide. And the new film looks every bit as exciting - and beautiful - as the original cartoon. Set in ancient China, it follows a young woman, Mulan, played by Crystal Liu, who disguises herself as a warrior to spare her aged father from going into the military.

The new version is directed by Niki Caro and the cast includes Jet Li as the Emperor of China and New Zealand actor Yoson An as Chen Honghui, Mulan's ally and love interest. Shot on location in New Zealand and China, Mulan will hit theaters on March 27, 2020.

The longest water slide in the world is set to open in August this year at a theme park in Malaysia. Coming in at 1,140 m, it will beat the current Guinness World record by almost 609 m. Guests will take a whopping four minutes to get from the top to the bottom. 
世界最长水上滑梯将于今年8月在马来西亚的"逃脱主题公园"开业。这个水上滑梯长1140米，比目前保持吉尼斯世界纪录的水上滑梯约长出609米。游客从头至尾滑下滑梯要花长达4分钟的时间。

They will slide down the ride from 70 m in the air, through the trees and the forest, before landing in a large swimming pool at the end. Escape Theme Park chief executive officer Sim Choo Kheng said he "didn't intend" to break the world record, but was proud of it anyway.
