Grethel presentsHans with a young goat. "Good-bye, Grethel." "Good-bye,Hans." Hans takes the goat, ties its legs, and puts it in his pocket. Whenhe gets home it is suffocated.

Hans takes thebacon, ties it to a rope, and drags it away behind him. The dogs come anddevour the bacon. When he gets home, he has the rope in his hand, and there isno longer anything hanging to it.

汉斯 接过肉，用绳子一路拖着回家了。路上有狗跟在后面将肉吃了，所以等他到家时，手上只剩下了绳子，绑着的东西早没了。

Hans takesGrethel, ties her to a rope, leads her to the rack and binds her fast. ThenHans goes to his mother.

汉斯领着格蕾特，用一根绳子拴住， 牵着她到饲料槽边，把她拴牢了。然后汉斯来到母亲跟前。

Hanswent into the stable, cut out all the calves', and sheep's eyes, and threw themin Grethel's face. Then Grethel became angry, tore herself loose and ran away,and became the bride of Hans.

汉斯跑到牲口棚里把所有牲口的眼睛都挖出来扔到格蕾特脸上。格蕾特火透了，挣开绳索跑了，再也不肯嫁给汉斯做新娘了。
