The mother of Hanssaid, "Whither away, Hans?" Hans answered, "To Grethel."

Hans comes toGrethel, "Good day, Grethel." "Good day, Hans. What dost thoubring that is good?" "I bring nothing, I want to have something givenme." Grethel presents Hans with a needle. Hans says, "Good-bye,Grethel." "Good-bye, Hans."

汉斯 来到格蕾特家。“你好，格蕾特！”“你好，汉斯！你带来什么好东西？”“我什么都没带，倒想问你要点什么呢。”格蕾特给汉斯一根缝衣针。汉斯于是说：“再见，格蕾特。”“再见，汉斯。”

Hans takes theneedle, sticks it into a hay-cart, and follows the cart home. "Goodevening, mother." "Good evening, Hans. Where hast thou been?"

汉斯接过针，插在一辆装满干草的车上，跟在车后面回了家。“晚上好，妈妈！”“晚上好，汉斯！你上哪儿去了？”

"WithGrethel." "What didst thou take her?" "Took nothing; hadsomething given me."

"What didGrethel give thee?" "Gave me a needle." "Where is theneedle, Hans?" "Stuck it in the hay-cart." "That was illdone, Hans. Thou shouldst have stuck the needle in thy sleeve.""Never mind, I'll do better next time."
