Brief Introduction:

在遥远的王宫里,一件刚发生的盗窃案惊动了宫廷卫士们!铁刺兄弟和弗林·莱德合谋盗取了小公主的王冠。宫廷卫士们立刻出动,誓要把盗贼们捉拿归案!

Chapter 6

At that very moment, a dashing (劲头十足的) thief named Flynn Rider (弗林·莱德) was running through the forest as fast as he could. The two Stabbington brothers (铁刺兄弟), his partners (同伙) in crime, ran with him.

Hot on their heels (紧跟着) rode the mounted (骑在马上的) palace guards (宫廷卫士). The guards’ highly trained and powerful white horses were as intent (意愿坚决的) on catching the thieves as the guards themselves.

Flynn Rider and the Stabbington brothers had stolen the crown (王冠) that belonged to the long-lost (失踪已久的) princess. In the kingdom, this was no joking matter (不是闹着玩的). The people still believed that their princess would return one day, and her crown must be ready for her! The royal guards would stop at nothing to get it back.

Flynn Rider halted (停止) at a tree and tried to catch his breath (喘口气). Noticing a wanted poster (通缉告示) of himself, he scoffed (嘲弄), “Would you look at this?” The Stabbington brothers stared blankly at the poster. “Is it too much to ask (要求太过分了吗) to get my nose right?” Flynn felt insulted (受辱的). “It’s just so ... bulbous (圆胖难看的),” he added petulantly (暴躁地).

“There they are!” A group of the royal guards had spotted the thieves from a ridge above. Flynn stuffed the poster into his satchel (背包) as he and the Stabbingtons took off. Again they ran at top speed, but they soon found themselves trapped at the end of a ravine (深谷). The only way out was to climb the sheer (垂直的) fifteen-foot walls.

Though the burly (粗鲁的) Stabbington brothers were Flynn’s partners, they were probably the most dangerous cutthroats (凶徒) he had ever met. They were identical twins (同卵双胞胎), big and strong, with matching (一致的) scars. The only way Flynn could tell them apart (区分) was that one of them wore an eye patch (眼罩) and never spoke. But right now Flynn was worried that they might kill him for the crown. He needed a plan to escape them and the royal guards!

“Okay,” Flynn said, thinking fast, “give me a boost (向上推) and then I’ll pull you up.”

“Give us the satchel first,” demanded the brother without the eye patch.

“What?” Flynn pretended to be stunned, hurt! “Why, I just can’t believe that after all we’ve been through together (我们一起经历的), you don’t trust me!”

But the Stabbington brothers wouldn’t budge (让步). Flynn could see that it was hopeless. Grumbling (抱怨), he handed the brothers the satchel containing the crown and began climbing over their shoulders. But Flynn was a clever fellow. As he climbed, he grabbed the satchel back, unnoticed (未被察觉的).

When he reached the top of the ledge (岩架), he held up the satchel and gave the brothers a grin (咧嘴笑). “Enjoy prison!” he called back as he ran away. “Find a hobby!”

The captain of the royal guard saw Flynn making a run for it (逃跑). “He’s getting away!” he shouted. “Don’t let him get away!”

A shower of (一阵) arrows rained down around Flynn, but he dodged (躲开) them all, leaping over rocks and fallen trees, skirting (绕开) bushes, and ducking (躲避) under low-hanging (低垂的) branches.

With the royal guards still hot on his trail (快要抓到), Flynn spotted a Y-shaped (Y字形的) tree up ahead and ran right for it. He hurled (猛扑) himself straight through the opening in the Y, landing safely on the other side. The horses of the royal guard stumbled to a stop (跌跌撞撞地停下来) behind him—all but one. The captain’s (队长) horse! Flynn was astounded (震惊的).

“Ha! We’ve got him now, Maximus (马克西姆斯)!” the captain said to his muscle-bound (肌肉过分发达的) white horse. “He won’t get away this time!”

Flynn took a quick glance back at the horse. How had he jumped through that gap?

Grabbing a vine (藤蔓), Flynn swung through the air and looped back, knocking the captain right off his horse and taking his place in the saddle (马鞍).

“Hee-yah!” Flynn yelled triumphantly (耀武扬威地), feeling pretty smug (得意的). He knew he’d pulled off (胜利完成) a classic move. But his grin quickly left his face when the horse suddenly came to a halt (停下来), nearly throwing Flynn out of the saddle. “Come on, Fleabag (肮脏的动物)!” Flynn yelled.

Maximus was the best horse in the kingdom, and he did not like being called Fleabag. The horse whipped (猛然移动) his head around angrily and started nipping at (紧追着咬) Flynn’s precious satchel.

“No!” Flynn shouted. “Stop it! Stop it! Bad horse, bad horse!”

Maximus began spinning in circles (原地旋转), trying to throw Flynn, but the young thief held on tightly (紧紧地).

“Whoa, who-o-o-o-oah!” Flynn shouted. Flynn had a new enemy—a maniacal (发狂的) horse!
