Unit 1 In China, we open a gift later.

在中国我们晚些时候打开礼物。

贝蒂：玲玲，生日快乐。

Betty:Happy birthday, Lingling.

大明：这是你的礼物。 Daming: Here’

syour gift.

玲玲：哦，你记得呀！惊喜啊！

Lingling:Oh, you remembered! What a surprise!

托尼：你可以打开它！

Tony:You can open it!

玲玲：我想我不应当现在打开它。在中国，我们晚些时候打开礼物。

Lingling:I don’t

thinkI should open it now. In China, we open a gift later.

贝蒂：课时回到美国，我们立刻打开一件礼物。

Betty:But back in the US, we open a gift immediately.

玲玲：那我怎么办？

Lingling:So what do I do? 贝蒂：你不必等了！

Betty:You needn’

twait! （玲玲打开她的礼物，发现一本词典.）

(Linglingopens her present and finds a dictionary.)

玲玲：噢，谢谢你们。我真的很想要一本（词典）。

Lingling:Oh, thank you. I really wanted one.

贝蒂：我们很高兴你喜欢它。

Betty: We’rehappy you like it.

托尼: 我注意到另一个不同。在中国，你们用双手接受礼物。但是在西方，我们通常不太注意那个。

Tony:I noticed another difference. In China, you accept a gift with both hands.

Butin the West, we usually don’t

paymuch attention to that.

贝蒂：那很有趣！我对了解所有的中国传统习俗感兴趣。多告诉我一些吧。

Betty:That’s interesting! I’minterested to know all the Chinese traditions. Tell me more.

玲玲：有许多。例如，在我的家乡，据说在春节的第一天你不能打扫卫生。你不能打破任何东西。那是不吉利的！

Lingling:There are a lot. For example, in my home town, people say you mustn’tdo any cleaning on the first day of the Spring Festival. And you mustn’t breakanything. It’sbad luck!

大明：你必须只用红色的纸来包红色，因为红色意思是幸运。在春节那个月期间你最好不要理发。

Daming:You must only use red paper for hongbao because red means luck. And you’dbetter not cut your hair during the Spring Festival month.

托尼：不会吧！

Tony: You can’tbe serious!

大明：在中国的北方，人们吃许多饺子！

Daming:And in the north of China, people eat lots of jiaozi!

贝蒂：完美！它们尝起来太好吃了。

Betty:Perfect! They taste great.

托尼：我也喜欢吃饺子。无论怎样，春节还有一个多月呢。先让我们庆祝玲玲的生日吧！

Tony: I likeeating jiaozi too. Anyway, the Spring Festival is still over a month away. Let’scelebrate Lingling’s birthday first!
