The�arteries�are large blood vessels that carry blood away from the heart to all regions of the body.

�

The�aorta, which is the largest blood vessel in the body, is the main trunk of the arterial system and begins from the left ventricle of the heart.

The�carotid arteries� are the major arteries that carry blood upward to the head. The�common carotid�located on each side of the neck divides into theinternal carotid, which brings oxygen-rich blood to the brain, and the�external carotid, which brings blood to the face.

The�arterioles�are the smaller, thinner branches of arteries that carry blood to the

capillaries.
