1、*tend

[tend]

v. 倾向，易于；照顾，照料

People tend to need less sleep as they get older.

随着年龄的增长，人需要的睡眠通常会减少。

He carefully tended his sunflower plants. 

他精心照料他的向日葵。

2、*tendency

['tendənsi]

n. 倾向；趋势，趋向

There is an increasing tendency for women to have children later in life.

女性晚育趋势不断上升。

3、*trend

[trend]

n. 趋势，倾向

There’s been a downward/upward trend in sales in the last few years.

过去几年中销售额一直呈下降／上升趋势。

4、*attend

[ə'tend]

v. 出席，到场，参加；看护，照料（病人）

Only 12 people attended the meeting. 

只有12个人出席了会议。

I am the first child in my family to attend college. 

我是家里第一个读大学的孩子。

On his deathbed the General was attended by several doctors.

将军临终时有几名医生在照料他。

5、*intend

Maybe he intends to leave her. 

也许他打算离开她。

This money is intended for the development of the tourist industry.

6、deliberate

He’s deliberating whether or not to accept the new job that he’s been offered.

7、*extend

v. 延长，延期；扩展，扩大；伸出，伸展；提供、给予（帮助、同情、欢迎等）

I need to extend my visa. 我的签证需要延期。

We’re planning to extend our publishing of children’s books .

我们正计划扩展儿童图书的出版业务。

8、contend

v. 竞争，争夺；（尤指在争论中）声称，争辩

Three armed groups were contending for power. 

三个武装集团在争夺权力。

Some scientists contend that the universe may be younger than previously thought. 

有些科学家声称宇宙可能比原先认为的要年轻。

9、*content

n. 容量，内容， (contents)目录    adj. (~ with) 满足的

Stricter controls were placed on the content of videos.

对录像的内容有了更严格的控制。

Not content with her new car, Selina now wants a bike.

塞利娜有了新汽车还不知足，现在又想要自行车了。

v. 假装，伪装

I pretend that things are really okay when they’re not.

我在情况不好的时候假装一切真的没事。
