David Simon (APRL): Meat is as bad as tobacco!

My guest today is Mr David Simon. 

David is a lawyer and advocate for sustainable consumption.  He works as general counsel for a healthcare company and serves on the board of the APRL Fund, a non-profit dedicated to protecting animals.

David received his B.A. from U.C. Berkeley and his J.D. from the University of Southern California. He is the author of New Millennium Law Dictionary, a full-length legal dictionary.  

In this episode, we discussed one of the books from David, called Meatonomics. 

Meatonomics is the first book to add up the huge “externalized” costs that the animal food system imposes on taxpayers, animals and the environment, and it finds these costs total about $414 billion yearly.  

In the episode, I challenged David with some tough questions, such as:

1) Why is it unethical to kill and eat an animal? Why should we treat animals like the way we treat human beings?

2) Why is it a bad thing for us to enjoy low meat price, instead of high price?

3) You proposed imposing a "meat tax" to increase the price of meat. Wouldn't it make lives of low-income families even harder?
