A group of alumni, highly established in their careers, got together to visit their old university professor. Conversation soon turned into complaints about stress in work and life. 

有一群事业有成的校友一起去看望他们的大学老教授。相聚之后，他们谈话很快就变成了对工作和生活压力的抱怨。

Offering his guests coffee, the professor went into the kitchen and returned with a large pot of coffee and an assortment of cups - porcelain, plastic, glass, crystal, some plain looking, some expensive, some exquisite - telling them to help themselves to the coffee. 

这位老教授看到学生们都在相互地抱怨，于是就去厨房端来一大壶咖啡来招待这些学生，并且拿出各式各样的咖啡杯——有陶瓷的、塑料的、玻璃的、以及水晶做成的，这些杯子看起来有的很普通、有的价值不菲、有的做工精美——教授让学生们都给自己倒上一杯咖啡。

When all the students had a cup of coffee in hand, the professor said: "If you noticed, all the nice looking expensive cups have been taken up, leaving behind the plain and cheap ones. While it is normal for you to want only the best for yourselves, that is the source of your problems and stress. 

当所有学生手中都端着了一杯咖啡杯之后，教授发话了，他说:“如果你们注意看一下就会发现，所有好看的贵的杯子都给挑走了，剩下的是那些普通的和便宜的杯子。每个人都想要得到最好的，这很正常，但这也正是你们的问题和压力的来源。”

Be assured that the cup itself adds no quality to the coffee. In most cases it is just more expensive and in some cases it even hides what we drink. What all of you really wanted was coffee, not the cup, but you consciously went for the best cups... And then you began eyeing each other's cups. 

可以肯定的是，杯子本身并不能提高咖啡的口感。在大多数情况下，它只是更贵；而在某些情况下，它甚至隐藏了我们要喝的是什么。你们真正想要的是咖啡，而不是杯子，但你们却有意识地去拿最好的杯子……然后你们开始看觊觎对方手上更漂亮的杯子。

 Life is the coffee; the jobs, money and position in society are the cups. 

其实生活就像是一杯咖啡; 工作、金钱和社会地位都是杯子。

They are just tools to hold and contain Life, and the type of cup we have does not define, nor change the quality of life we live.

杯子只是承载生活的工具，它的类型并不能定义亦不能改变我们生活的本质。

This is not a cup of ordinary coffee. This is your life.

这不是一杯普通的咖啡，这就你的生活。

它微微带着一点苦，但不酸也不涩，散发着新鲜的咖啡香气。

Coffee provides time to reflect and energy to take action.
