You Are the Apple of My Eye filmed entirely in Taiwan. 

It follows the ups and downs of a romantic relationship. Chen, a Taiwanese actress educated in California, plays the female lead. 

Chen: In the story, the girl was chased by the male lead for 8 years. And he did so much for her. Like he would accompany her to study every night. And then a lot of time, they would talk on phone at night. It's very hard to imagine this kind of love story in real life.

Isn' it way different from the Taiwanese story that you might see in a film ? 

Chen: Yes, very different. I think because it's a true story and that makes a very big difference. Cause the director, he is the script writer, it's his own story. So we get to hear him talking about what happened in the past a lot.

For whatever reason, You Are the Apple of My Eye struck a note with young audiences in several different countries. 

Chen: We did really good box office in Singapore, in Malaysia, in China, especially in HK, like we're historically No.1 box office for Chinese movies in HK, and that for us was very surprising. We all feel very blessed that happened. It's very unexpected, it's beyond our imagination.
