Hi, this is MT English. My name is Joe. Today I’m gonna read you a short story called the Cat in the Hat Comes Back by Dr.Seuss.

大家好，这是MT英语。我是Joe.今天我将为你讲一个Dr. Seuss的一个小故事--《戴帽子的猫回来了》。

This was no time to play.

This was not time for fun.

This was no time for games.

There was work to be done.

这会儿可不能玩耍，这会儿可不能逗乐，这会儿可不能游戏，我们手头儿有活儿要做。

All that deep, deep, deep snow, all that snow had to go.

户外的雪又深又厚，必须统统产走！

When our mother went down to the town for the day, she said,” Somebody has to clean all this away. Somebody, somebody has to, you see." Then she picked out two some bodies. Sally and me.

今天妈妈到城里去，临走的时候这样提起：“总得有人把雪清理干净，要知道这件事必须有人干才行。”然后她挑出了两个人来做：那就是萨利和我。

Well…There we were. We were working like that and then who should come up but the CAT in the HAT!

然后呢。。。我们就开始动手干活儿，我们正这么干着，这时候你看谁来了？正是戴高帽子的猫！

"Oh-oh!" Sally said.” Don’t you talk to that cat. That cat is a bad one. That Cat in the Hat. He plays lots of bad tricks. Don’t you let him come near. You know what he did the last time he was here."

“啊嗷！”萨利说道，“别搭理那只猫，她可是顽皮的不得了，戴高帽子的猫，恶作剧没完没了。别让他靠近我们，你知道上一回，他在这儿出了什么花招吧。”

“Play tricks?” laughed the cat. Oh, my my! No, no, no! I just want to go in to get out of the snow. Keep your mind on your work. You just stay there, you two. I will go in the house and find something to do.

“恶作剧？”那只猫哈哈大笑“不不不，我只想进到屋子里，离开这冰天雪地。你们两待在这好好干活，我进屋找点事做。

Then the cat went right in! He was up to no good! So I ran in after as fast as I could!

那只猫说着就闯进了屋子里，他肯定要做什么鬼把戏，我也一溜烟的跟着他跑了进去。

Do you know where I found him? You know where he was? He was eating a cake in the tub! Yes he was! The hot water was on and the cold water, too. And I said to the cat, “What a bad thing to do!”

你知道我在哪找到他的吗？你知道他在哪吗？他正在浴缸里大吃蛋糕。没错，他正在大吃蛋糕！热水开着，冷水也开着。我对猫说：“这是一件多么糟糕的事情啊！“

“But I like to eat cake in a tub,” laughed the cat. “You should try it some time,” laughed the cat as he sat.

那只猫哈哈大笑“但是我喜欢在浴缸里吃蛋糕呢，改天你也可以试试。”

And then I got mad. This was no time for fun. I said, “Cat! You get out! There is work to be done. I have no time for tricks. I must go back and dig. I can’t have you in here eating cake like a pig! You get out of this house! We don’t want you about! Then I shut off the water and let it run out.

这下我气的直冒火：“我可没功夫开玩笑。”我说，“出来，你这只猫，我还有活要干，没工夫玩这些把戏，我还得回去铲雪，可不能让你待在这里像一头猪一样大吃东西。你赶快离开这个房子。我们不想让你转来转去。”我一把关上了水龙头，让浴缸里的水全部流走。

The water ran out. And then I saw the ring! A ring in the tub! And, oh boy! What a thing! A big long pink cat ring! It looked like pink ink! And I said, ‘Will this ever come off? I don’t think!”

水哗啦啦的流了出去，可我看见了一圈的污渍，浴缸上整整一圈。天哪！这可真是麻烦。那只猫留下了长长一圈粉色痕迹，就像粉色污渍涂了上去。我说：“这能去掉吗？我心里可没底。”

“Have no fear of that ring,” laughed the Cat in the Hat. “Why, I can take cat rings off tubs. Just like that!”

“别担心那污渍。”戴高帽的猫哈哈大笑，“因为我能把它从浴缸上除去。就这么办，轻而易举。”

Do you know how he did it? With mother's white dress! Now the tub was all clean, but her dress was a mess!

你知道它是怎么做的吗？它用妈妈的白裙子来擦。这下浴缸倒是擦得干干净净，可是妈妈的裙子麻烦了。

Then Sally looked in. Sally saw the dress,too! And Sally and I did not know what to do. We should work in the snow. But that dress! What a spot! “It may never come off!” Sally said. “It may not!”

萨利从窗外看了一眼，也发现裙子一团糟乱。我和萨利真不知道该怎么办？我们本该在雪地里干活的，可那条裙子就是脏兮兮。“这污渍可能再也去不掉了。”萨利说，“永远也没办法除去。”

But the cat laughed, “Ho! Ho! I can make the spot go. The way I take spots off a dress is just so!”

可那只猫还是哈哈大笑“我能去掉这污渍，我有办法把这裙子弄干净，只要这么做就行。”

“See here!” laughed the cat. “It is not hard at all. The thing that takes spots off a dress is a wall!” Then we saw the cat wipe the spot off the dress. Now the dress was all clean. But the wall! What a mess!

“看我的。”那只猫哈哈大笑，“这一点也不难办到嘛！去掉这裙子上的污渍用一面墙最好。”我们看着那只猫把裙子上的污渍擦到了墙上。现在裙子倒是干净了，可墙上却是一团糟。

“Oh, wall spots!” he laughed. “Let me tell you some news. To take spots off a wall, all I need is two shoes!”

”噢，墙上的污渍！”那只猫还是有说有笑，“让我来告诉你一个新法子，要去掉污渍，我只需要一双鞋。”

Whose shoes did he use? I looked and saw whose! And I said to the cat, “This is very bad news. Now the spot is all overdad’s $10 shoes!”

它用的鞋子是谁的呢？我一看就知道大事不好。我对那只猫说：“真是太糟糕了。爸爸的这双鞋花了10美元，现在到处沾满了污渍，实在是不妙！”

“But your dad will not know about that,”said the cat. “He will never find out,” laughed the Cat in the Hat. “His $10shoes will have no spots at all. I will rub them right off on this rug in the hall.”

“可你爸爸根本就不会知道”那只猫说道。“他永远也发现不了。”戴高帽子的猫哈哈大笑。“哈哈，他这只10美元的鞋子不会留下一丁点的污渍，我在走廊的地毯上把污渍都给蹭掉。”

“But now we have rug spots!” I yelled. “What a day! Rug spots! What next? Can you take them away?”

“可是现在，可是现在地毯又脏了！”我大声喊道。“今天真是糟糕！地毯脏的一塌糊涂！接下来还要怎么着？你能不能把地毯上的污渍去掉呀？”

“Don’t ask me,” he laughed. “Why, you know that I can!” Then he picked up the rug and away the cat ran.

“别问我。”他哈哈大笑说：“你知道我能办到！”他一把扯起地毯，撒腿就跑。
