她浅笑如轻叹,

她细数 已超过六遍,

一个被装满的手袋，一颗久历的心-

他们“给她时间”; 因她的灵魂须逃离

人世所定的常规惯例；

但是爱 寻觅更真的爱情。

她甜蜜无语地摇动折扇，

因思绪无法回忆从前；

这儿一瞥，那儿一眼，

从眼睑的开合之间；

带着羞涩的神气说着平常话，

聆听大胆表白， 不予责难；

但她的沉默诉说着- 她将永远不说的誓言-

爱 寻觅更好的爱情。

去吧，女士！靠着夜晚的吉他，

并向奏者绽放笑颜；

那么当他走远，也要甜蜜地微笑，

和着室内歌者的歌声。

轻浴在温柔的目光里；

淡然一瞥，任其消散无形；

并将新誓归入旧的假誓-

但不敢称它为爱情!

作者简介：伊丽莎白·巴雷特·勃朗宁（Elizabeth Barrett Browning，1806年3月6日－1861年6月29日），又称勃朗宁夫人或白朗宁夫人，是英国维多利亚时代最受人尊敬的诗人之一。 15岁时，不幸骑马跌损了脊椎。从此，下肢瘫痪达24年。在她39岁那年，结识了小她6岁的诗人罗伯特·勃朗宁，她那充满着哀怨的生命从此打开了新的一章。她的作品涉及广泛的议题和思想，对艾米丽·狄金森，艾伦·坡等人都有影响。

她的主要作品有：

•《天使及其它诗歌》(TheSeraphim, and Other Poems, 1838),

•《诗集》(Poems,1844),

•《葡萄牙十四行诗集》(Sonnetsfrom the Portuguese, 1850),

•《大会前的诗歌》(PoemsBefore Congress, 1860),

•《奥罗拉·李》(AuroraLeigh, 1857)

•《逃跑的奴隶》(TheRunaway Slave at Pilgrim’s Point, 1846)等。

她诗歌创作的主题可以分为两个主要方面。一是抒发生活之情，尤其爱情;二是争取妇女解放,反对奴隶制,暴露社会的弊端,表现了进步的理想。她的诗具有炽热充沛的感情和扣人心弦之力量,语句精炼,才气横溢,大都是带有较浓的感伤。
