With little knowledge of a travelling destination, it is not strange for a traveler to experience culture shock, hence develop biases against what is coming their way.

 

People rarely have the time or the right tools to fully understand a foreign culture.

 

Most people only travel abroad once or twice a year amongst their busy work schedule, so grasping the customs and cultures of their travel destination may be too much to ask. Without much knowledge, it is no wonder they land wide-eyed in a foreign country.

 

Some people do search about their destination, but when you get your information from the Internet or mass media, there is a likely chance that you see foreign people in only the broadest of strokes. Seeing news segments and movies does not really show you what people from a certain country are like, and you do not get to see the whole truth most of the time.

 

It is because people normally do not form enough knowledge about their travelling location that they do not build enough preparation mentally to let go of their bias and accept the foreign culture.
