We watch the world moving in front of our eyes on the TV, computer screens and even on our phones. But what made this possible?
The moving picture goes back further than you may think. Some of the first moving pictures were in toys! From as early as the 1600s, toys had pictures that you could spin (旋转) to make it look like a picture was moving. This gave people the idea for photos and later movies. Then in the 1870s, Eadweard Muybridge from the UK took lots of pictures of a horse running.. He put all these pictures together on a spinning machine and showed how motion (运动) could be captured(被捕捉).0 Then, Thomas Edison from the US made the first motion picture cameras and projectors(放映机) in the 1890s. The Lumiere Brothers, from France, took the work of
Edison further in the 1890s. They became known as the “fathers of modern cinema".
The early movies had no sound. So a man would play music live on a piano to go along with the film. Sound came to the movies in the 1920s. The Jazz Singer, made in 1927, was the first movie with talking. So it was called a “talkie". Now, movies are full of special effects (特效) made with computers.@ The magic of cinema has come a long way.
