Hi, I'm from Portugal. And I study at Tianjin Foreign Studies University. I've been living in China for more than one year. And I've always been curious about local traditional snacks, especially mahua (fried dough twist), which has a long history in this city.

Today I have the opportunity to visit one of the most famous shops here in Tianjin where I will learn more about it. Come with me.

Wow, look at this shape. And it smells so good.

Here I've learned that this company, for example, employs many young people that learn the techniques from their masters. This is not only a form to preserve the Tianjin traditional snack, but also a way to preserve Chinese culture.

Look at the shape and the size. It's so different. It looks like a mini donut. Another type of mahua. And it looks like a flower. And here we have a king-size mahua. It's about 1.5 meters long. Look at the size. It's so big, so beautiful.

Here in Tianjin, we can still find many shops of mahua, and also find tourists buy mahua to take home as souvenirs for their friends and families, which shows that mahua is still very popular today. I also think that this shows China's great efforts to preserve intangible cultural heritage.
