The Gruffalo said that no gruffalo should

Ever set foot in the deep dark wood.

咕噜牛说，咕噜牛永远都不能踏入森林深处。

"Why not? Why not?" "Because if you do 

“为什么不能？”“因为如果你这样做，

The Big Bad Mouse will be after you.

那只可恶的大老鼠会跟着你。

I met him once," said the Gruffalo.

我曾经碰到过一次，”咕噜牛说。

"I met him a long long time ago."

“很久很久以前我碰到过他。”

"What does he look like? Tell us, Dad.

“他长得像什么？爸爸，跟我们说说吧。

Is he terribly big and terribly bad?"

他大得吓人？坏得可怕？”

"I can't quite remember," the Gruffalo said.

“我不太记得了，” 咕噜牛说。

Then he thought for a minute and scratched his head.

然后他想了一会儿，挠挠他的脑袋。

"The Big Bad Mouse is terribly strong 

“那只可恶的大老鼠非常强壮，

And his scaly tail is terribly long.

他粗糙的尾巴长的可怕。

His eyes are like pools of terrible fire

他的眼睛像可怕的火池，

And his terrible whiskers are tougher than wire."

他的胡须比电线还结实。”

One snowy night when the Gruffalo snored 

一个下雪天的夜晚，咕噜牛在酣睡的时候

The Gruffalo's child was feeling bored.

咕噜牛宝宝感觉很无聊。

The Gruffalo's Child was feeling brave

咕噜牛宝宝觉得自己很勇敢，

So she tiptoed out of th grufflo cave.

她踮着脚尖走出了咕噜牛洞穴。

The snow fell fast and the wind blew wild.

雪下得很大，风也呼啸着。

Into the wood went the Gruffalo's Child.

咕噜牛宝宝走入了森林。

Aha! Oho! A trail in the snow!

啊！哦！雪中的足迹！

Whose is this trail and where does it go?

这是谁的脚印，去向何方？

A tail poked out of a logpile house.

一条尾巴探出了木堆屋。

Could this be the tail of the Big Bad Mouse?

难道这是那只可怕大老鼠的尾巴？

Out slid the creature.His eyes were small

 这个动物溜了出来。他的眼睛小小的。

And he didn't have whiskers-no,none at all.

而且他也没有胡子——一根都没有。

"You're not the Mouse.""Not I," said the snake.

“你不是那只老鼠。”“我不是，”蛇说。

"He's down by the lake-eating gruffalo cake."

“他在湖边呢——正在吃咕噜牛蛋糕。”

The snow fell fast and the wind blew wild.

雪下得很大，风也呼啸着。

"I'm not scared," said the Gruffalo's Child.

“我才不怕呢，”咕噜牛宝宝说。 

Aha! Oho! 

啊！哦！

Marks in the snow!

雪地里有爪痕！

Whose are these claw marks? 

这些爪痕是谁的？

Where do they go?

他们去哪儿？

Two eyes gleamed out of a treetop house.

两只眼睛在树屋顶上闪闪发光。

Could these be the eyes of the Big Bad Mouse? 

这些可能是大坏老鼠的眼睛吗？

Down flew the creature. 

那动物飞了下来。

His tail was short

他的尾巴很短

And he didn't have whiskers of any sort.

而且他没有任何形状的胡须。

"You're not the Mouse."

“你不是那个大坏鼠。”

"Toowhoo, not I,

嘟呼，我不是，

But he,s somewhere nearby, eating gruffalo pie."

但是他在附近的某个地方，吃咕噜牛派。”

The snow fell fast and the wind blew wild.

雪下得很大，风也呼啸着。

"I'm not scared," said the Gruffalo's Child.

“我不害怕，”咕噜牛宝宝说。

Aha! Oho! 

啊！哦！

A track in the snow!

雪地里有一条足迹！

Whose is this track and where does it go?

这是谁的足迹，还有它去哪里了？

Whiskers at last! 

胡须！

And an underground house!

还有一个地下的房子！

Could this be the home of the Big Bad Mouse?

啊哈！啊吼！这有可能是大坏鼠的家吗？

Out slunk the creature. His eyes weren't fiery.

那动物悄悄走了出来，他的眼睛并不炽热。

His tail wasn't scaly. His whiskers weren't wiry.

 他的尾巴没有鳞片，他的胡须并不坚硬。

"You're not the Mouse."

“你不是那个大坏鼠。”

"Oh no, not me.

“哦不，我不是。

He's under a tree - drinking gruffalo tea."

 他正在一棵树下 - 喝咕噜牛茶呢。”

"It's all a trick!"said the Gruffalo's Child

“这都是一个诡计！”咕噜牛宝宝说

As she sat on a stump where the snow lay piled.

她坐在积满雪的树桩上。

"I don't believe in the Big Bad Mouse...

“我不才相信什么大坏鼠…… 

"But here comes a little one, out of his house!

“但是这里有一只小老鼠走出了他的房子！

Not big, not bad, but a mouse at least -

不大，不坏，但至少是一只老鼠 -

You'll taste good as a midnight feast."

你会品尝到一顿像午夜盛宴一样美好的食物。”

"Wait!" said the mouse."Before you eat,

“等一等！”老鼠说。“你在吃之前，

There's a friend of mine that you ought to meet.

应该先见见，我的一个朋友。

If you'll let me hop onto a hazel twig

如果你愿意让我跳上榛子树，

I'll beckon my friend so bad and big."

我就把我朋友叫来，他又坏又大。”

The Gruffalo's Child unclenched her fist.

咕噜牛宝宝松开了手。

"The Big Bad Mouse- so he does exist!"

“坏蛋大老鼠？真的存在？”

The mouse hooped into the hazel tree.

老鼠跳上榛子树。

He beckoned, then said,"Just wait and see."

他呼唤着，然后说：“等着瞧哦。”

Out came the moon. It was bright and round.

月亮出来了，又亮又圆。

A terrible shadow fell onto the ground.

地面出现了一个可怕的影子。

Who is this creature so big, bad and strong?

这个硕大、可怕又健壮的动物是谁？

His tail and his whiskers are terribly long.

他的尾巴和他的胡须长得吓人。

His ears are enornous, and over his shoulder

他巨大的耳朵垂到了肩上

He carries a nut as big as a boulder!

他拿着的巨石一般大的坚果！

"The Big Bad Mouse!" yellled the Gruffalo's Child.

“可怕的大老鼠！”咕噜牛宝宝大声尖叫。

The mouse jumped down from the twig and smiled.

那只老鼠从树枝上跳了下来，笑了。

Aha! Oho! Prints in the snow.

啊！哦！雪中的脚印。

Whose are these footprints? Where do they go?

这些印迹是谁的？他们去向何方？

The footprints led to the gruffalo cave

这些脚印延伸到了咕噜牛的洞穴

Where the Gruffalo's Child was a bit less brave.

这里的咕噜牛宝宝有点不够勇敢。

The Gruffalo's Child was a bit less bored...

咕噜牛宝宝不那么无聊了.....

And the Gruffalo snored and snored and snored.

咕噜牛呼呼地酣睡着。
