Chapter 14: Rebirth

"My child, my child, it's really you. Mother has finally found you." While passing a small shop, my hand was suddenly grabbed by a flamboyant, extravagantly dressed woman, who immediately pulled me into her embrace.

“孩子，我的孩子，真的是你，母亲终于找到你了。”在穿过一小店时，我的手突然被一位疯疯癫癫穿戴华贵的妇人拉住了，然后马上这位妇人把我拥入怀抱中。

Seeing this, my mother quickly stepped forward to pull me away.

母亲一瞧这件事，马上上来拉我。

"Madam, you are mistaken. This is my daughter, not yours."

“夫人，您弄错了，这是我的女儿，不是您的女儿。”

"How could this be? How could she not be my daughter? She is my daughter, Swallow!" The woman refused to let me go while her maidservant tried to persuade her that I wasn't the young lady she thought and that she had mistaken me for someone else.

“怎么可能？怎么可能不是我的女儿？就是我的女儿燕儿。”妇人不肯松手，而她身边的丫头也劝说妇人说我不是小姐，夫人是认错了。

"Mother! Mother!" I called out to the woman.

“娘!娘！”我朝着妇人叫道。

Upon hearing my calling, the woman's tears turned into laughter, leaving my birth mother and the maidservants stunned.

这下妇人转哭为笑，而我母亲和妇人以及身边的丫鬟都惊呆了。

"Child, come back with me," she said.

“孩子，和我回去吧！”

"Mother, this woman..." I held my birth mother's hand. "She raised me and took care of me. I can go with you, but her family is so poor they don't even have food to eat."

“娘，这位……...”我拉着母亲的手道。“她养育了我，照顾了我，娘，我可以和你走，可是她们家很穷，连饭都没得吃”

"Take all of this!" The woman's maidservant pulled out all the money she had, and I quickly took it from her, placing it into my birth mother's pocket, trying to attract as little attention as possible.

“这些都给你！”妇人丫环把身上的钱财全部拿出来，我忙接过妇人手中的钱，装进母亲的口袋里，尽可能少引起别人的注意。

Then, I whispered softly into my birth mother's ear:

然后悄声和母亲耳语道:

"Mother, take this money and go home quickly. Don't make a fuss, and I'll find a way to visit you later. Make sure to save some money for yourself, and don't let father find out. Don't worry about me. I'll manage. This is our only way out." After saying this, I gently pushed my birth mother away and turned to hold the woman's hand, leaving with her.

“娘，你拿了这些钱赶紧回家，不要声张，我以后会想办法回来看你的，还有钱一定要留着点给自己，千万不能让父亲知道，不要担心我，我有办法，这是我们唯一的出路。”然后我就推开了自己的母亲，转过身来拉着妇人的手随着她离去。

I didn't know where she would take me, but I wanted to follow her because I knew what would be waiting if I backed out now. My birth mother would soon pass away, and I would have no choice but to support the family with my frail body, becoming the backbone of the household. That dream was too bitter, too painful. I didn't want to look back. I couldn't even bear to glance behind me. Although the road ahead was unknown and dangerous, and the woman might even be a fraud, there was still a glimmer of hope she might bring me.

我不知道她会把我带到哪里，但是我只想跟着她走，因为我知道如果我后退，那么等待着我的将会是什么？母亲很快就会不久于人世，而我也很快不得不以弱小的身子和父亲一起撑起这个家，成为这个家的顶梁柱，那个梦太苦了，真的太苦了，我不想回头，我连回望也不能，前路虽然陌生，也可能有凶险，也有可能这个妇人是个骗子，但是始终都给了我一丝的希望。
