India will overtake China to become the most populous country in the world by the end of this week, the United Nations has said. India's population is expected to reach 1,425,775,850 people by the end of April, the new data shows. The Asian nations have accounted for more than a third of the global population for over 70 years.
联合国表示，印度将在本周末超过中国成为世界上人口最多的国家。新数据显示，到4月底，印度人口预计将达到14.2577亿人。这两个亚洲国家已经占据全球人口的三分之一以上超过70年。


"China will soon cede its long-held status as the world's most populous country," the UN's Department of Economic and Social Affairs said in a statement. It added that "due to the uncertainty associated with estimating and projecting populations, the specific date on which India is expected to surpass China in population size is approximate and subject to revision".
联合国经济和社会事务部门在一份声明中表示，"中国很快将失去其长期以来拥有的世界人口最多的国家的地位"。该声明还补充说，"由于估算和预测人口涉及的不确定性，印度在人口规模上超过中国的具体日期是预估的，可能会有所修正"。


The UN Population Fund said last week India would have 2.9 million more people than China by the middle of 2023. China's birth rate has plunged recently, with its population shrinking last year for the first time since 1961. "By contrast, India's population is expected to continue growing for several decades," it added.
联合国人口基金会上周表示，到2023年中期，印度将比中国多出290万人。中国的出生率近年来急剧下降，去年人口自1961年首次出现萎缩。声明还补充说，"相比之下，印度的人口预计将继续增长数十年"。


In November, the global population crossed 8 billion. But experts said the growth is not as rapid as it was — and is now at its slowest rate since 1950.
