To reject, cast off, disown, renounce, refuse to accept as one’s own; also, toreject as false, deny the authority of, refuse to accept as true.

Repudiate suggests a formal, often vehement (VEE-uh-mint, the h is silent)rejection. You can repudiate a child, reject or disown the child; you canrepudiate a belief, cast it off or renounce it; you can repudiate a claim, denyits authority; and you can repudiate a charge, reject it as untrue.
